author's notes: title taken from the R.E.M. song, which totally inspired this. written july 20, 2008 as part of the ninja fic challenge i had with
aoireeza and
pach_unni. this fic was written for
kimbuibui and her prompts: jaesu - 'lighter' and 'fingers'. love to my kimkim unni. ♥
junsu doesn't say it, but he finds jaejoong most beautiful when he is surrounded by smoke, cigarette clamped between his lips, sitting on the landing of the fire exit, breathing the city in, smog and stale air and tainted oxygen.
junsu sits there with him because jaejoong likes hearing his voice. talk, sing, mumble, i don't care.
jaejoong tosses the lighter onto junsu's lap, and junsu takes it into his hands, flicking at the knob. the flame reflects on jaejoong's eyes, and junsu saves the memory, tucking it away in the pocket of his heart.
jaejoong breaks into song, fitting his fingers in between junsu's. junsu knows it is his cue to follow. he slips into the spaces of the harmony jaejoong set out for him, he fills the gaps with sound and punctuates with pauses and rich laughter.
let's do this again sometime. jaejoong smiles against the sky. the cigarette has reached its end, but the moment lasts forever.
