July meme, Days 23 to 30

Jul 30, 2021 06:36

My flist is very, very quiet at the moment. I think that's why I keep forgetting to post myself... Well, that and the beautiful weather which lures me out of the house each morning.

However, I'm feeling lazy this morning and unwilling to start my day, so...

Oh goodness - I'm not looking forward to the news analysis of the pandemic AT ALL! Rehashing all the mistakes made and what we should have done earlier..... ack.

Electric cars are still quite pricey but the costs are coming down as more manufacturers are making them. You can actually pick up some rather good bargains for electric cars second hand at the moment and I think that's going to increase in the next few years.

I hate shutting a book and going to sleep if it's getting good....

I doubt that either you or I will be around in 50 years time to see the (hopefully) balanced assessment of historians, but you're right, the journalists and pundits will be there almost immediately.

I've been planning to get an electric car for a number of years, but recently have been reconsidering the need to own a car at all. I reckon there will be more opportunities for shared ownership and on demand rental in the near future.

Interestingly we went to a lecture hosted by Robert Llewellyn (he of Red Dwarf but a HUGE advocate of electric vehicles and owner of a Tesler *jealous*) and the experts on the panel were talking about the future being all about phoning for a car that you used and then returned. Why have a car sitting on your drive/outside your house for most of the year that you're not using. Just get one when you need it.

There was also talk of having multi occupancy cars that would pick you up on the way somewhere on a kind of bus route.

It was a fascinating lecture.

That's exactly my thinking. I must use my car maybe once a month, these days. I noticed the other week that there is already a casual usage scheme locally, so I think it will be a goer when my current car reaches the end of its life.

The way the United States has dealt with this pandemic is going to be assessed as a total shit show by historians. Right now our Attorney General is suing counties for reinstating the mask mandate even though Missouri is still stuck at just over 40% fully vaccinated with the Delta variant raging in some counties.

Isn't it strange? 500 days today since I really worked in an office. And back then, you worked in one too!

Electric car sounds good!

500 days? Wow. It's when you use numbers like that... Yes, I did.

PS - I discovered I don't need to come to London this summer, afterall. I would have liked to see a deserted London, but not enough to travel 300 miles *g* And I don't suppose it is actually empty nowadays. I will come on a visit, for a holiday, at some point, but not this year.

Having gone into London yesterday I can attest that it's pretty empty still. Trafalgar Square was deserted at 11am. Mind you that may have had something to do with the torrential rain...
