As much as I love this place, I am horribly frustrated at my ability to communicate. I am about three clicks behind speaking pace. I have to sit and process. I hate that. Ich kann aber sehr einfache Saetze machen. Nur langsam... Na ja.
I met the perfect guy at the Staatsoper. He graduated from Yale. Economics and Finance. He spoke Spanish and German. He'll be working at a bank in London in the fall. I had to laugh. His one flaw-- standing in Parterre. I always stand in Galerie. The sound is better. Too bad...
Oh my word. A woman just walked by with her hair sprayed out. I could see through the sheets of it. This is Europe, not Texas.
I was disappointed by the production of Falstaff at the Volksoper. They didn't go quite as wild with the stage design as they normally do; everyone was decked out in Americana circa 1950. The Nanetta butchered her aria. No concept of legato at all. She worked through the whole thing. I recognized the singer. She sang Die Koenigin der Nacht earlier in the season. Meg played Carmen (birthday) and Alice was played by Rosalinde.
