First off, let me just say that any day that brings me a new Atlantis and a new Supernatural is a good day.
I haven't figured out how to separate the cut tags, so...I'm mashing both together.
Atlantis: Allies
I have a word of advice for the Atlantis crew: The next time an enemy comes knocking, offering gifts and alliances and puppies, blow their asses up. Seriously. I mean, how many times are they going to fall for the same goddamn thing? Also? Listen to Teyla. Not only is she the closest thing you've got to a moral compass, but she actually knows the baddies you're dealing with week in, week out.
Having just finished the latest story in
hth_the_first's awesome, beautiful, occasionally painful Alpha Centauri series, I think she would be pleased at how very OT3 you can make Ronon/Rodney/John as we head into Season 3. There's snark, there's love, there's protection, there's trust. It's all good.
What I would really love to see on Atlantis is less crisis-of-the-week and more green jello moments. The more I watch, the less impressed I am with the writers, who seem like maybe they're all emotionally stunted at fourteen. There's just not much there there right now. The last half of the season was a real disappointment for me because nothing happened. It's just the same old, same old, week after week, without anybody really getting a chance to grow, or evolve, or even for us to get to know the characters more deeply.
Supernatural: Route 666
With Home, Asylum, Scarecow and Faith, we had four stellar episodes in a row. It was probably time for a more ho-hum one. I thought the "plot" was more ridiculous than usual ("Oooh! I'm a big mean truck! I gun my engine at you!"), and the racial context felt very shoe-horned in...come on, a murdered children's choir!?!?!?
But! But! Still, so much to love. Sam getting to be a little brother, with all the physical and emotional nudge-nudge that implies. Dean getting to be naked and nipply, and kissing. Good GOD, the kisses. I liked 'em. I'd happily watch more kissing anytime they care to show it to me.
Many Wincesty moments of goodness, too, such as the instant classic, "We do what we do and we shut up about it." Dean kissing Cassie while Sam watches and putting his finger out, as if to say, "Hang on a sec," but we ALL know what he really means is "Wait your turn."
Would one of you icon-savvy people consider making a "Wait your turn" icon for me from that if a screencap becomes available?
I have another icon in mind, but I have to pounce on
crysothemis for that one... :)
All in all, new Supernatural is good Supernatural, and I loved the brothers' interactions enough not to be bugged by the things that didn't work as well for me.
