I've read a couple of comments from folks who just abhorred this episode, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Wow, I see John Sheppard differently than a lot of people seem to. I loved how he mashed Rodney's buttons to get his brain in overdrive; it didn't come off to me as smug. In fact, if anything, it was the slashiest thing I've seen between them yet -- he knows Rodney. It worked, too. This episode seemed to highlight a casual intimacy between them. I've seen it in fic a lot, but this might be the first time I've really seen it in the show.
I can see why some would think it was a bad decision to bring all the people to the Orion, rather than waiting for the Daedelus, but to me, again, that's a sign of John's (rarely misplaced) confidence in Rodney's abilities. I hardly ever overthink things, so maybe I'm taking too superficial a look at it all, but it worked for me.
There's a story someone wrote about life or death experiences and sex and those two things working in conjunction to get Rodney's brain in high gear? Does anyone know the story I mean? It's really, really good and I want to read it again!
The double-flirting with Narina could be read in so many different ways. I thought she had better chemistry with John than Rodney (even just John's hand on her bare arm was h.o.t. hot), but I could also totally see her being open to a threesome, so...
Rodney was cute with his "stand in the doorway...to check structural integrity...to save civilians..." and "everything's okay under here" to excuse his panic reactions to the tremors. Hee.
Did y'all see Ronon's eyes follow Sheppard when they first discover the Orion? Sheppard walks by him, and Ronon tracks him, turning as Sheppard passes, to keep an eye on him. ::happy sigh::
I really like Teyla and Ronon's relationship. It's easy, uncomplicated, warm. I can see them having sex, but I can also see them just being friends, and either one makes me happy.
I liked the plot as much as anything, and wow, that's a new one for me. I was on the edge of my seat, wondering what the hell they were going to do.
Man, that Vancouver casting pool really is shallow -- the man playing the Chancellor also played Roy LeGrange on last week's Supernatural.
