Holly Miranda • A Hurricane Inside A Cramped Space

Nov 30, 2009 20:31

I've posted previously about New York's best kept secret; Holly Miranda. Now it seems the secret's out the bag and everyone's heard of her in some way or another.

Between writing up my End Of Year (and Decade!) Round-ups, I came across Holly's new single, 'Forest Green Oh Forest Green', taken from her forthcoming album The Magician's Private Library which is set to be released on XL Records, 23rd February 2010. The single comes with a B-side cover of Yoko Ono's 'Nobody Sees Me Like You Do'.

'Forest Green Oh Forest Green' is a cosmic pop jingle, chock full of experimental spacey sounds and combine real instruments with computerized samples.

Also, take a listen to her live performance with The Antlers, covering Pink Floyd's 'Breathe/Time/Breathe'.

The New York Times described Holly as "the ferocious power of a hurricane inside a cramped space". Pretty spot on I'd say.

I'll be reviewing her new album as soon as it hits in February 2010, but before then, keep an eye out for my End Of Year Round-Up and check out this great Black Cab video of Holly covering Lauryn Hill's 'Ex-Factor'.
