WHO: Kara Thrace, Lee Adama, and OPEN
WHAT: Kara is trying to deal with the news Helo has given her, and Lee comes to find her to talk.
WHERE: Halls
Kara wandered the halls aimlessly. She was still wondering what this place was exactly. Seemed to be military, but she hadn't exactly stuck around to do a Q & A with Helo about where they were.
A child

"If you're coming here to tell me that you met a great Cylon girl and that she's already pregnant with twins, pull out your sidearm and shoot me now."
He smirked at that one, "Ah yes nothing like some ordinary relationship drama for us huh?" he deadpanned in return.
He turned his head away and sat quietly as she worked out what he knew was at the core of what had clearly devastated her, kicking himself for not picking up on it sooner. Finally she expressed her doubts and fears about Helo and even the little girl. The latter surprised him a bit, neither of them had ever had a particular affinity for kids. He didn't want anything horrible to happen to the child though if there was even one bit of humanity in her.
"Yeah she is just a kid, and if she's part human?"
"Or what if we never ( ... )

Kara almost spouted one of her patented snarky comments, but closed her mouth at the last minute, remembering the fight they had before they arrived at this Godsforsaken place. Her brain currently couldn't handle any more problems; they would deal later. If they dealt at all.
"Yeah she is just a kid, and if she's part human?"
"I know. Thought's popped into my head over and over again. And as pissed as I am at Helo, I don't think I could just stand there and let something happen to his kid. Besides, it's not her fault she's in the middle of all of this." Kara paused. "Gotta wonder, though. If she's part Cylon in any way, is she a potential danger to us? At least somewhere down the line?"
"C'mon Starbuck, if you're going to be unhappy there's no reason you have to be uncomfortable too."
Kara was hungry. And exhausted. Not that she would admit that to Lee. Some food and a few hours rest would do them both good, reenergize them so that they could keep looking for a ( ... )

Well they really were on the same page about the kid. For whatever reason kids pretty much remained non-combatants at least kids as young as Hera.
"Anything's possible, I'd say and we really can't be sure how far down the line either. I mean what do we know about how Cylons grow or how that's going to affect how she grows? For right now though I've no desire to see her hurt."
"I was going to suggest we find a bar and have a drink. Or five."
He smiled at her. He had to give her credit; sometimes she had a way of switching from the most desperate of topics to the most bizarre. It was one of the things he loved about her though. Lords had he really just thought that?
"Well, whoever said we couldn't order drinks with dinner?"

Kara nodded. At least they agreed on that. She still didn't know what to think about Helo, though. Stuck in this crazy place, it would be nice for her and Lee to have someone else to depend on. Someone else to help them get back home.
But would Helo really want that? Yeah, he would. Because in his frakked-up mind, his Cylon was quite the savior. In his mind, he had nothing to fear in terms of going back to Galactica. She rolled her eyes at the thought. Idiot.
"Well, whoever said we couldn't order drinks with dinner?"
Lee's voice broke through Kara's thoughts. She told herself she wasn't going to think about Helo or how screwed they all were for the rest of the night. Instead, she smirked at Lee and said, "Dinner? Who needs dinner when you have alcohol, Apollo?"
The smirk slowly disappeared as her eyes locked with his. And then she said 'thank you' to him without saying anything at all.

So she wanted to party or commiserate?. He could deal with either but he'd arrived here hungry. He'd been so angry when he'd heard what she'd done that he'd gone looking for her without even having any breakfast. Then since he'd been here the only thing he'd had was that one piece of fruit.
"Well if all you want to do is drink that's fine with me. I haven't had anything to eat, except that piece of fruit, since the Ball and I'm ravenous." The look in his eyes said perhaps for a bit more than food. He might as well direct her bash in a positive direction from the start.
And then she said 'thank you' to him without saying anything at all.
He was at initially surprised when she drew closer to him and then "Ah...um...uh...," he relaxed into her but after a moment drew away, "maybe we really ought to go find our quarters?"
He took her hand and urged her to follow him with a nod of his head in the direction he wanted them to go.

The Ball. Images flooded Kara's mind. The blue dress that she wore. The look on Lee's face when he first saw her in it. Dancing. Laughing. Drinking. Dancing with Baltar. Leaving with Baltar. And then...
Damn. She needed that drink now. Not only did her mind know it, but her body knew it, too. She could practically taste the alcohol on her tongue, feel it burn as it slid down her throat.
"...maybe we really ought to go find our quarters?"
Lee started to lead her away, but Kara pulled back on his arm. "Quarters? I thought you were 'ravenous'? C'mon, Apollo, we all know when your blood sugar gets low, you get even bitchier." She burst out laughing at her own joke. This was good. This was what she needed to focus on. Nothing else.

"No, no, no you don't understand, the food is being brought to our quarters. If you need a drink I'm sure that can be arranged too, com'on."
He gently pulled her back toward him again. "Besides, who said being ravenous only applies to food?"
He couldn't believe he had just said that and almost cringed, he had a good chance of getting hit again.

Oh frak.
Colonials. Not just any Colonials, but Thrace and Adama's kid. Frak, frak, I've already died twice in this place! Short of Admiral Cain, they were the last people he ever wanted to see on this base. Cavil stopped flatfooted, frozen by surprise and a not inconsiderable amount of fear.

"Okay. But better make 'em bring us a whole bottle...and, ya know, whatever you want to drink," Kara replied, smiling at him. So the food was being brought to them. At first thought, the idea of being catered to was nice. She wasn't used to having people do stuff for her like that. But on second thought, it made her feel kinda...trapped. Like, no matter how huge this building seemed to be, it was slowly but surely closing in around her.
Another thought popped into Kara's mind, "How do you know all of this? About the quarters and the food?"
"Besides, who said being ravenous only applies to food?"Kara started laughing again, thinking he was joking with her, "Sorry, Apollo. Can't help you with that hunger. But, hey, it seems like there's a lot of people around here. Gotta be at least one girl here who finds you remotely attractive. Or, ya know, who doesn't have an irritable upchuck reflex." She grinned her patented Kara Thrace grin at him ( ... )

He should have known she would pick up on that. He could try to randomly forget she'd asked the question but she'd probably call him on it. Or he could outright lie but he figured the former course left more chance of his remaining alive.
"Sorry, Apollo. Can't help you with that hunger.
He gave her a grin back as if he'd taken her words as a gentle joke and with her grin it might very well be, so he choose to josh back.
"Oh but I thought you wanted me," he said, taping his chest with his hand, "wore that dress for me," he thought. Of course though he'd blundered earlier bringing up the whole issue and he wasn't going to do it again. He broke out into a broad smile though and winked at her.
It was then his attention was drawn to the other man who looked like he'd just been confronted by the Cylons. When Kara spoke out he decided to follow her lead.

His expressions changed from fear to relief. "Oh, thank the Gods, Colonials!" He said, raising his hands skyward. "I thought it was too good to be true, that my eyes were playing tricks on me- I've been praying for more friendly faces around here for a long time."

"Oh but I thought you wanted me."
Kara let out a laugh that said 'yeah, right.' "Please, Apollo. I'm way out of your league. You'd have to hop in your sorry ass in a Viper and fly for a while just to get a visual of my league." She tapped her hand on her chest just like he had, grinning.
"...I've been praying for more friendly faces around here for a long time."
Kara was immediately suspicious of the man, her instincts kicking in. One moment he had been completely afraid of them, and the next grateful to see them? ...That and he was just...off.
"You're from the Fleet," she said, more of a question than a statement, "How long have you been here? And how did you get here?"

She'd shot him down too though and that was a little more disappointing. He wasn't about to play out any more of that discussion in public though. It would have to wait until they were alone.
This guy though, one minute he'd seemed scared of them and now? Something just didn't seem right about that. Kara seemed to have picked up on that too though, he added to her questions only with an inquiring look.

Of course, in the back of her mind, she knew she was being an idiot. Things had started to shift between the two of them; they both knew it. They had started to depend on each other more, to care for each other more, in and out of the cockpit. Finally telling him about Zak's death...it had freed something between them.
That was why she had worn the dress. That was why she had backtracked, why she had panicked and slept with Baltar...
She pushed the thoughts even further back into her mind. Lee had to get past it...to get past her. He deserved more than her, the screw-up. He deserved better than all of this. Gods, why didn't he get that?
"...Might not like the answers, you know?"Kara put her focus back on the stranger. The better part of a year? Did he not know about the colonies? About the war? "Where exactly did you come from? ( ... )

"Be nice," he said it just above a whisper, meant more for her to consider than to conceal his request from the other man. Still he didn't want to anger her either. There'd been enough strong emotions between them over the last few days.
