On Saturday I went to see The Maids by Jean Genet at the Exit Theater in the Tenderloin in the city. It was a very intimate space and overall, I enjoyed it. I read the play for my Intro to Queer Studies class from freshman year and I still have it at home, but honestly, I barely remember a thing. It was all done in drag which I thoroughly enjoyed, plus it was free! Only snag was that after, as we were all standing outside waiting for everyone to come out, this guy comes up to us and asks for a cigarette and change, but we were all pretty much ignoring him. He turns to Ariel who looks him dead in the eye and says, "I don't have a cigarette or change," to which he starts going off on her about sucking every guys' peckerwood and this and that. Ronny comes up next to her and puts her arm around her in an attempt to move her away from the man, but this only enraged him even further. He starts saying racial slurs and then out of nowhere smacks Ronny in the face and turns and walks away really fast like a little bitch. Needless to say, everyone was a little startled and shaken up. Funny thing is there were two cops right across the street in some type of restaurant/cafe thingy and two more just a few strides down at the corner of our street. Pshhhh.
Sunday was laid back, not too much going on. Yesterday (Monday) I skipped my lecture and just went to work and then went to some social networking thing that Emily and I were invited to for SPEACK that was hosted by STAND (damn these acronyms). That was pretty nice and seemingly productive, but we'll see how it spans out. I went to Biversity afterwards but no one was there except Chrysanthe. She had been feeling a little sick so we went to Kimball and rested and then we came to Terra. We went to bed around four something, but Chrysanthe had straight up chills till at least seven in the morning. She was shivering. Today didn't get much better, and after she threw up a little bit of blood, I took her to urgent care. They gave an IV and some nausea meds and she said she felt better, thank goodness. We grabbed some vegan pizza before heading back to Terra. She's been sleeping since about ten; I can't seem to want to go to sleep. Plus I had a bathroom clean that I did around one.
This upcoming week is going to be hell for me. HELL. Plus my dad is coming this weekend and then the bday and then the California Supreme Court starts hearing arguments on the fifth and it just seems neverending because right after that it's going to be finals, and ahhh! I'm pretty sure this is why I can't sleep. I just don't want to waste time sleeping. I wish I could survive and function with no sleep. Then I wouldn't be so stressed out. Oh, I got past phase one of Teach for America application, next phase is the thirty minute interview on Sunday. If I get past that then I need to submit recommenders which sucks because I don't have any!!! FML.
