::For once Sawyer had found something to do outside of the arcade. She sat in the dining cart using a pair of chop sticks as knitting needles and knitting herself a scarf with the ball of yarn Dr. Horrible had given her for Christmas. She had it in a bowl so it didn't roll around too much, since that would be a pain. She hummed to herself ( Read more... )

::Looks up from her knitting.::

Ah! Hello. Just making a scarf. It's been cold lately, so I thought it would be good to have. And I don't know what else I'd do with this yarn.

::drags a chair over and sits down at Sawyer's table, folding his arms on the counter and putting his chin down::

I didn't know you could knit. Is it hard to do?

I'm not very good at it, but the basic stuff is pretty easy to do. It just takes a lot of time to actually finish something.

How much time? ::puts a hand on the yarn ball, rolling it gently around in the bowl::

It depends on what your making, but a scarf will usually take a day or two.

Things like hats and socks are harder and can probably take a couple of weeks. I think sweaters might actually take a few months. I don't know how to do those though.

What's the best thing you ever knit?

::Sawyer laughed a little.:: It's not something I do a lot. I knit a large blanket one autumn so I'd have it for the winter. It wasn't that impressive to look at but I was rather proud that I finished it.

Wow...That's neat, Sawyer.

I can't knit. They don't have classes like that at school.

Would you like to learn? If I could find some more yarn, I'd be happy to teach you.

I'd like that very much. Thank you.

Can I watch you in the meantime?

Sure. It's nice to have some good company.

I don't know any stitches other than the basic one,so I can't really make anything fancy. My friend Tillie tried to teach me but I just couldn't figure it out.

Who's Tillie? Another cat?

Oh no. Tillie's a hippo. She's a very good actress. A very sweet girl.

She's been a friend of mine for a long time. She does a lot of knitting and sewing and things. It helped her pass the time at the agency.

What agency? Like a secret agency for spies?

An acting agency. It's how we find out about jobs. Movie directors call us about parts in movies they need, and if we have someone who would be good at it, we send them to audition.

I used to work there, answering the phone and filing papers and things.
