Sage is a loud kid. He laughs loud, yells loud, plays loud, talks loud. He likes to roar and hiss and snarl and growl. We've had many talks about letting people know that he is playing or pretending before he starts to make these noises. He also has to ask permission from other children to "play monsters or dinosaurs" before he can get in their ( Read more... )

That is an awesome step in the right direction and I couldn't be more pleased for you. He's becoming very thoughtful about his choices in life, and obviously thinks about what you think as well.

I don't know if I've told you this, as I tend to read your journal more than I respond to it, but you are an excellent mother, and I can see that every time you talk about your kids.

that gives me hope.

lucas used to obsessively love "good guys" and was actually hateful of "bad guys." then out of nowhere, he started only pretending to be only bad guys :-( he worries me sometimes with comments he makes..

ex. "what was your favorite thing in the book?"
answers: "The part where she scared him."
"The part where she pinched them and they said ow."
"the part where they tricked the good guys."

:-(

sometimes i feel like i didn't make a big enuf a deal about bad guys. but i it's not true. we taught him the same type of thing you mentioned teaching Sage. no bad people. just bad choices. what we call a bad guy is someone who makes repeated bad choices without care of anyone but themselves...

our big thing isn't tv but instead video games. when we play lego batman.. he only wants to play as villains...

sigh.. sorry..

i am happy for you cuz it sounds so huge to me!

I think it's natural for children to go through a phase where they explore villains and villainy. When they do, that's an excellent opportunity to explain why villains are villains and what makes bad guys bad. Heck, I've always had a soft spot for Megatron as much as I prefer Optimus Prime. It can also be helpful for children to come to see that the world ain't all flowers and that sometimes they have to make decisions.
