The Bird Feeder

Nov 14, 2013 12:03

Almost 9 years ago my mum died. It was the classic 'short illness' you read about in funeral notices but she had enough time to go with us and buy all our last Christmas presents from her, and my present was a bird feeder.

My bird feeder never got unwrapped out of its Christmas paper - not for any great sentiment (we're a very prosaic lot, us Websters) but not unwrapped because I knew what was in there and not-in-use because I asked Gary to build me a stand in the garden from which I could hang it and that never happened.

This year I've been feeding the birds home-made fat balls with bird seed in them but that's more of a winter thing and as I moved the bird seed bag yesterday I decided to see if I could hang mum's bird feeder on the tree branch we had used for the fat balls in their onion-bag net.

I could, and I did.

To go along with this I have a new user pic with a thrush on it - not that the user pics show up very well in my new layout. I like most things about the layout except that the user pics are small and mingy. Might have to shop around for another layout, but where will I get something as nice and colourful as this one?

(I'm always intrigued to click through to my friends LJs to see what they've chosen. The feed is useful but doesn't show the interesting choices others have made.)
