I guess when other states get hurricanes, we get crazy tempests like we had last night. And apparently we had one last Friday night, too, but we slept right through that one. This one, on the other hand, I got to drive through. Yay! I kept pulling over to the highway shoulder when one half of my brain would tell me it was craziness to keep driving through the sheets of rain and continuous lightning. Then the other half of my brain would tell me that it was ridiculous to sit by the side of the road and wait what could be ages for the rain to let up a bit, and I'd pull back off the shoulder onto the road again. And it turned out to be a good thing that I never did sit too long at the side of the road: when I was five or six miles from home, the radio started telling me that an exit ramp I had passed less than ten minutes before was now under four feet of water and cars were lining up at the edge of the brand new lake for miles. Just in time, I guess.
And the rain itself was just in time, too. The grass was getting kind of crispy.
And there was no damage to the house, or even the garden, for which we're grateful. Wouldn't want to lose any of those tomatoes, after all. They're so SCARCE.
No other real news, I guess--at least, none that's really mine. Lots of other people's news, though: my sister's surgery was very successful and my brother is home from Japan, and my dad's even in town this week. Nice to have the fam all in one place.
It's tech week for my next show, if that counts as news. I like this show, but it's got another big stumbling block solo for me, like Superstar did. (Worse, really.) I seem to be overcoming this one and my jangled nerves slightly more easily, but we'll see how it goes.
Oh, and summer school child care ends this week, so I'll have all next week off. I would have had one day off, anyway, since Allen and I are taking a practice run at a not-as-far-away state park for our backpacking trip, but now I get the whole week. And then it's time for teacher workshops already. Eek.
But right now: bedtime. Man, my shoulders are sore.
