John hung pictures today. I wrote a magazine article. It's the first piece I've completed since August. The move, visiting relatives and the job search left me with little time or energy to write and getting back to it wasn't easy. Scattered as I am after these recent upheavals in my routine, I managed to write a 400-word opinion piece over the course of the day. I'm happy with the result and it's already off to the editor.
The hardest thing about today's effort was re-activating my excessive verbiage filter. After a few hours at it, I was once again able to cut out those apparently clever bits that added nothing to the piece. It was ardous work but well worth it. I feel primed to take a stab at longer pieces and to start sending out queries again.
