Oh, Frabjuous day!

... Callooh! Callay! he chortled in his joy.
I'm always charmed to think that this is the original use of the word "chortled." It feels like a word we should always have had.

It's an odd combination of weather here - we seem to have summer intensity sun (perhaps I just mean "it's not raining at the moment") but the air temperature is quite low, so it still feels fresh and springlike. Whatever it is, it's doing me good - I was up and about at 5.30 this morning. I know this means I'm going to wilt later at work, but right now I'm feeling v. happy.

Perhaps it's that I finally have the 'net at home, after weeks of intermittent hunting through numerous files looking for the account details, and a mountain of boxes looking for modem, filters and all the technoknitting that welds them together. I feel I've moved the flat on another click.

Still without my main pc though - it seems that either a bit of roughness during the move, or maybe the damp storage conditions in my sister's garage did it in. The files etc. all seem to be there still, but the windows layer is kaput. Ah well, it was overdue for an upgrade anyway, and once I can find the money for a new machine (and a desk to put it on) then I can just hook the machines together and yank over all the darn fiddly little files that I forgot to burn to CD. In the meantime I'll carry on with just my laptop.

I was going to buy another drawer for my bedside unit (I'm buying the modular stuff from Muji), but when I went out with friends on Friday, someone pinched my jacket! I still can't work out how they did it, because we'd all dumped our bags on the floor and stood round them, and I'd put my jacket on top of the bags. Fiendishly cunning, these sneak-thieves. I guess I should just be grateful that I kept my wallet in my trousers, even though it does spoil the line - though not because it's stuffed with greenbacks, alas. The demands of soft furnishing have seen to that!
