I can add it to the list of "why I so fail." (explanation: I have no contacts and my glasses don't fit properly , so I feel like I can't see).
Today is Easter, a holiday when I miss my dad a lot. Yes, even more so than on Christmas or Thanksgiving. I think because it's not such a secular holiday and there's not so much hullaballoo surrounding it and I have more time to feel guilty about not being observantly Christian (I only feel this on Easter, of course, since Easter is the most important day in the Christian calendar)
Today we are going to have roast leg of lamb, dilled peas vinaigrette, roast small potatoes, roasted (I think) asparagus (I could only find frozen!), and a leeks and bacon quiche/tarte. This assumes I cook any of it. P only wants lamb and potatoes.
I went looking for Easter menus online and was amused to see they are generally divided into 4 types.
1. traditional/spring (with lamb & peas; the kind I grew up with)
2. Country/Southern (featuring HAM; the kind I didn't grow up with but which is prevalent in Bed-Stuy, thus explaining the lack of fresh asparagus in area markets whereas the string beans are sold out).
3. Vegetarian
4. Diabetic-friendly
My Easter meal partakes from each of these categories (OK, not really Country/Southern so much as I could not find the beans, but the bacon in the leek tart counts, right? Or maybe I will thaw some of that ham we got for Xmas and use it in place of bacon).
I suppose the ham/lamb divide is geographical. My mom is from Boston and we pretty much never had ham on holidays.
We are also supposed to bury Sandy in the backyard. It's been above freezing at night for about a week, I think, and it is spring after all, so we should be able to manage.
I watched the first part of the CTKT "dattun 5 batsu game in Hokkaido" and was so amused.
Fortunately
chikara21 was too and she subbed it, so I was able to enjoy it even more. Jin chopping wood was riveting. In part to see if he could actually split a big log without splitting one of his arms or legs first. I was surprised that the jimusho was willing to take the risk. He could have ended up in the hospital.
Though I suppose it's cold enough there that blood loss would be minimal.
thought for sure he would lose a foot here.
He is chou kawaii when he is in the gambatte mode, cursing his failures and puffing out air in frustration. And when he pushes his hat back so you can see his birthmark.
Then you know he's getting serious. Plus you could see he was impressed that the old guy could do it easily whereas he had to struggle. I wonder how many takes they had to do before he actually managed to split one?
And I am crushing on sadistic director/producer guy with the hat.
and the frozen banana
In comparison, Maru shovelling shit was not nearly as funny.
