last night I couldn't sleep.
I went through some drawings and made a sketch for printmaking at eleven.
At midnight I made a new playlist for my iPod. the highlight was a new song I got last night from Chris/Jeremy: "Walking With A Ghost", covered by the White Stripes (whose
website is really fun).
I moved my bed from the ground to up on my bunk at three am. then I drew on it with markers. it was really fun. I hope my mom doesn't get mad. if she does I'll just buy it from her. then I still couldn't sleep so I went downstairs and made a bean and bacon/ turkey/ cheese/ stale bread mixture of food and ate it with a glass of egg nog and also an ice cream samwich. then I fell asleep.
woke up at seven. went to skool and got started printmaking by eight. made some really fun stuff. printed till painting class... which was kind of boring cause it was just a critique. but then it wasn't even too bad and I made fun drawings. James made a great painting (dekooning/ fauve/ RAW style) I think I'm getting better at seeing what I like and what I dislike about paintings.
printmaking class was fun. also a long critique class, but I was really proud of what I'd made and was happy to hear others liked it too. Jenny is so punk. she had a face mask (like ski.. or maybe robbers wear.. with two eye holes and a mouth hole) on backwards, folded up, like normal beanie, but then she had pigtails and they came out through the eye holes in back! sometimes I can't believe how cool she is. and by sometimes I mean all the times.
today julene (who runs the art office) gave mike the "
found" book. I was excited. he said when she gave it to him he thought of me.
yesterday bob called me and wants me to come back to work. it's been pleasant not working, but it's also nice to know I'm desired. It will also be good to have extra money when I go to india/thailand.
books I have been reading / recently read:
- empty words: writings '73 - '78 by John Cage
John Cage is so great. I don't understand him. Like this book has tons and tons of random writing. He used random chance and stuff.. it's hard to explain kind of. He is an institution. Look him up at your local library. He has written tons of books. Plus he's a composer. He composed the piece "Silence". (everything is music)
- david byrne by John Howell
This book wasn't quite as great as I expected. The favorite part is quoted on the back of the book, where David says something like "I like music/art best when I can't quite get a handle on it". He said something different, but that's my interpretation. Also the travel journal section was really fun to read.
- modulations: a history of electronic music by Peter Shapiro
this book changed the way I looked at electronic music. It's not really the music, but the IDEA that is really exciting. read about it if you want.
- the broker by John Grisham
this book is just a mainstream book but a best-selling author. my mom bought it for me. it has traveling, adventure, and a man being forced to be creative.
- wild at heart by John Eldridge
this book is good for me. most of the things they say I feel like I already know, and have known forever. but it's still good to hear. (don't give up).
