Tokio Hotel : return of a phenomenon!
Q: A new album - always a synonym for pressure for you?
Bill: Not really. This is already our third album - or actually our fourth - so we don't really have to prove anything anymore. It's more relaxing but of course there's the pressure of the public, and we're releasing it in more countries than before. It's a worldwide release and both in English and German, so there was definitely a lot of pressure from the outside but we just try to relax and to concentrate on making music. That's what we're focusing on.
Q: The desire to rediscover yourself musically?
Bill: Yes, we really wanted to try out a few new things. We've been playing our old songs for a really long time, so we really wanted something new and wanted to try out new things. It was time; we just couldn't hear our old stuff anymore, so we needed something new, something fresh. We decided to add something different than just guitar, bass and drums and tried many different things, production-wise. And I co-produced the album for the first time.
Tom: We were in the studio and just experimented and thought about what we wanted the next Tokio Hotel CD to sound like and... yes! It definitely sounds a little different but you can still hear that it's Tokio Hotel.
Q: A CD from a universe inspired by science fiction?
Bill: Actually we're not really science fiction fans. "Humanoid" is more of an attitude towards life, something that's always been present for us, and something that describes our lives pretty well. The name of the album was the first thing we had and we wrote the song afterwards.
Q: A phenomenal succès since your beginnings...
Bill: We're not really spoilt by success [note: the French subtitles say 'Success is not something we're used to'] so it always makes us happy to see this, especially after such a long production time. We're really happy to be back and to come back to so many people waiting for us is of course the best thing that can happen. When we arrived here two days ago, we were really excited when we saw all the people who were there for us.
Mina (TH fan): I'd have to write a book to say everything I want to say about them. No, but... they're real, in fact. It's not a band that was prefabricated, they've been together for a long time and made their dream come true together. The fact that they're real, that they're my age, the things they talk and sing about has had a connection to my life because they've evolved like me, actually. [note: I've listened to this a hundred times but the background noise makes it impossible to understand what she's saying - something about them being sentimental or her feeling sentimental about the boys...?] and... they're our babies, in a way :)
[Also, I loved this comment on the video, so I thought I'd translate that as well: "Thanks to the girl who can express herself; she says things that are true and it's a pleasure to see that not all the girls or fans are little hysterical teenagers who are only capable of saying, 'they're pretty'. If you read this comment, thank you for this positive and adult image you're giving the TH fans :)]
Bill: I think fans are very important to us, and it doesn't matter what country they're from. Our fans are obviously something special. France was, apart from Germany, the first country where we started making music, so we're obviously... I mean, here, many fans are-
Tom: In France, the fans are really "hard-core" and supportive.
Bill: Yes, definitely. And when we arrived here, they were waiting for us already and they've always supported us.
