EXO and airbrushing - MV’s vs the reality (with really terrible screencaps)
Ok so this is something I’ve been thinking about for a while and it annoys me…how SM edits EXO in their mvs, specifically EXO M.
Now I know mv making is like creating a piece of art, I understand that everything has to be of really high quality because low quality mv=less interest in the band (cough tmax cough) but it just bothers me how much they edit the members in order to make them “more attractive” -esp those members that perhaps don’t fit into the asian standard of beauty
--just before i start, i know that skin tone is often linked to race but in this case i think it’s tied into the cultures i’m talking about and social class; darker skin means you’re working for your living, paler skin means you sit about on your arse talking about silk dresses and eating truffles etc. i’m not going to get into the racial aspect of this, there’s plenty of great discussions going on elsewhere--
and also, i’m not necessarily bashing sm or the creators of their mvs but i do want to highlight it because imo they’re wasting their money and they’re missing out. --btw the growl dance ver. mv is 5000000% perfect--

for me, it makes the viewing experience of mvs a loss less rewarding because it’s like they’re trying to take away their beauty, to make them all look a bit less like themselves…
I know this has a lot to do with lighting-in these artificial sets lighting can be controlled much easier and lots of lighting in those settings are designed to get rid of ‘flaws’ but i don’t want these beautiful humans to look like waxworks or dolls-they have thousands of little intricate details to their faces that make them beautiful…including the flaws!
aand to impress my point; a mv that gets it so right
TLDR; THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL eNOUGH STOP tRYING TO CHAnGE THEM
