I was wide awake, buy 6 am, this morning. I have had my ritual two cups of coffee, have watched an episode of Dexter, and, all was good with the world.
So, let's talk about yesterday, shall we?
After my appointment, I was happy to be on my way, to JoAnns. I got to the parking lot, and I started giggling, like a complete madman. (I swear, nobody should get so excited, going to JoAnns. I am pretty sure it is just not normal, at all.) I jumped out of the car, and grabbed my walker. And I did not scoot, slowly across the parking lot. Hell no. I zoomed, into the store, at a warp speed. (I think sparks were actually forming at the legs of my walker.) I was on a mission. I was there for yarn! (Crafters, young and old, beware. Stay out of Michael's way, or you risk being ran over!) As soon as I went through the sliding doors, I was greeted by three things. A salesperson, who sadly, was just another individual in my way, to the yarn. Second, I was greeted by the OVERWHELMING smell of cinnamon. (I mean, I like cinnamon. I think, for the most part, it is nice. It tastes good, and it has a pleasant smell, when used in moderation. But, MY GOD! It was like Cinna-Palooza, in the store. It was almost enough to render you unconscious.) Third, as soon as I was in the store, and had reclaimed my senses, from the power of almighty cinnamon, I got a contact high, just knowing I was in the vicinity of yarn. It was in the same building as I was...in the back of the store. It was waiting, for me. Somehow, over the screaming baby (who was punching his mother), and the buzz of all the different voices, I could hear it, quite clearly. It stood out, from all the other sounds.
The yarn was calling to me.
Michael, I could hear it calling, in a voice that was wonderfully soft. Thank God, you are here. Come. Come to the back of the store. There are skeins, waiting, just for you. Come. Come. Come. And, I did go. ( I swear, it must have looked like one of those cartoons. You know, where the smoke from a pie grabs some toon, by the nose, and leads him. ) There I was, being seduced by the yarn...Going to the back of the store, and feeling as though I was hypnotized by the callings of the soft skeins.
First, I went to the aisle, where Pomp-A-Doodle resides. I reached my hands, into a mass of black and white polyester pom-poms. Oh, how delightfully soft. I pulled two balls of this particular yarn, from the shelf. And, I couldn't help it. I took one of them, and ran it across my cheek. One thing about Pomp-A-Doodle. It is almost sinful. It is absolutelty wonderful. Softer than anything I have yet to come across. I LOVE IT! I happily placed these two balls, in my basket, and moved on.
Next, it was time to look for my yarn, for the Wavy Baby Blanket.
As you know, from yesterday's entry, I have drecided to abandon the colors, as called for, in the book. Instead, I have decided to use Christmas tones.
My original idea was to buy the actual Red Heart Holiday Yarn. I absolutely LOVE the red, green, and white yarn, with the gold foil in it. It is so nice. But, while not super-expensive, it does cost a little more, than I can currently spend. So, I had to give up that idea. At least, somewhat. I went with three Red Heart yarns: Burgandy, Hunter Green, and Soft White. It is a color combination that just put in the "jolly frame of mind." And, I didn't empty my bank account, getting it. I will, later down the line, buy one of the Holiday Yarns, with the gold foil. And, I will use this yarn, to finish the Wavy Baby Blanket.
After a delghtful shopping experience, I left the store, and came straight home.
Two hours later, something AMAZING happened.
I FINISHED MY AFGHAN!
Here it is...take a peek.

Needless to say, I am thrilled. I am going to wash this afghan, today, and it will be used, tonight. I look at, and I am completely amazed. I really can't believe that I made this! And, just as you all said, looking at it now...well...now, all the stress it put me through, seems, somehow, worth it.
This morning, before coming to my blog, I began working on the Wavy Baby Blanket. Kim Biddix designed this blanket. At first, I was not able to make sense of the pattern. But, somehow, when I started, it became very clear. I have already worked the "set up row"...the row which gives the wave, to the blanket. Now, the rest should be relatively easy. I hope! And, as I look at the colors in the pattern, I know that I made the right choice, in choosing my own shades, to work with. The colors in the book are great, if your Wavy Baby Blanket is actually for a baby. But, there are no babies, in my family. Therefore, this will be a throw, to put on the back of a couch. A CHRISTMAS THROW. How wonderful.
So, here we are. We are down to the final three projects, of the crocheting part, of The Yarn Project. I have this current project, The Bright Nights Wrap/Throw, and the project, which will be randomly chosen from ones sent in by you.
I must admit...I never thought I would go this far. I thought that, eventually, this project of mine, would wind up being just like every other thing I do. I thought I would flake on it. But, here I am. Months after starting, and I have NO intention to give up. I am good, and ready to go.
Bring it, yarn!
Well...
Happy crocheting.
