Yesterday...
All started off, quite well, on the yarn front.
Ok, ok...that may be an exaggeration. To be truthful, all started off, good (albeit slow), on the yarn front. I had breakfast (junkie cereal, all the way baby...yeah, talk about sugar high!) I made my bed (because, well...a nice bed deserves to be made.) I pulled out my craft bag, and yanked out the afghan-in-the-works. I then unballed it (is 'unballed' even a word?) and looked at it. What would my next best strategy be? I decided to throw in a sample swatch (the green and white one, I made, while learning to join yarn). I had to extend it, a little bit, to get it to work. So, I framed it in a light green, double stitch. Then, it found its place, in the scheme of the afghan. (I swear to God...This afghan is completely taking on the look of abstract art. Not what I was going for, but what the hell. It still looks totally bitchin', thank you very much!)
So, the swatch was added. What next?
I pulled out my collection of still unused squares. Peach and variegated? Nope! Hot pink? I like totally don't think so! (Hot pink reminded me of a valley-girl, yesterday.) Faded green, and orange? Too blah. Lime green, hot pink, and lemon yellow? Way too damned bright for me, yesterday.Pink and lilac? No way, Jose! Square after square...none of them were quite right, for me, yesterday. One by one, the grannies got turned down. They were rejected, and put away, in a blue bag, to be worked with, another day.
Then, there was the last granny, in the bunch. I am sure this granny was terrified, that she too, would be rejected. Was her fiber shaking?
I examined her. Then I decided.
Yes! This was the PERFECT granny, for me to work with.
And what granny was it, you might ask?
The "Poinsettia Granny.' You remember her? She was the granny that I absolutely loved, despite my mother saying she looked rather dreary. Worked in gold, burgandy, and dark green, this square is all kinds of beautiful. Dreary? Hell no. I think not.
So, granny got worked.
I decided to extrend this granny...Ya know, make her bigger. And, what better yarn to use, than that variegated Christmas yarn, donated by my Aunt?
I worked, and worked....AND WORKED!
How is it, I started to wonder, that I finished the first row, so damned quick? Yet, working on expanding one FRIGGIN square seems to take an eternity, now. I am not crocheting, any slower now, than I was, at the beginning of this project. And, there were no stops yesterday...at least, not until 5 pm (you will hear about this, in a bit.) But somehow, this square went nowhere, fast.
So...5 pm, huh? What happened, at 5 pm?
Well, I'll tell you what happened!
ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE, ON THE CROCHETING FRONT! I had my yarn needle (a tiny plastic blue needle, used to stitch things together), laying on my me bed. I rolled over on it, and it snapped like a friggin twig. Guess what? It was my last one. So, now I cannot stitch anything together, until I get a new one.
Then, the destruction continued.
I have one size "I" hook. Correction...I had one size "I" hook. And, oh...How I loved it. It was my baby. It was my dear friend. And yesterday, it DIED!
It was a special hook. I ordered it online. It had this wonderful clay handle, to it, which was perfect for me, due to my tendonitis.
So, what happened?
I leave my room, to do the 'walking thing'. I leave everything sprawled out, on my bed. After all, what could possibly happen? I am gone for no more than 15 minutes. And, when I come back, lo and behold, one of our dogs, is in my room, gnawing on something. Upon closer inspection, I see it. My sad hook. The blue clay...Cracked, and scattered on the floor. I hear it crunching, in the dog's mouth.
And, I scream.
"NOOOOOOOOO! STOP! PLEASE....STOP! (Why I screamed stop, I have no idea. The damage was already done.) And, did the dog stop? Nope. Gnaw. Gnaw. GNAW!!! Then, when the dog finally did stop, he looked at me, like he had just done this wonderful thing.
Tears filled my eyes. I had just witnessed brutal hook murder. Parts were everywhere! And just like that, as I stood, looking at the scene, Cujo (not his real name), came over, licked my hand, and vacated the room.
EVIL FRIGGIN DOG!
So, now I have bit of a problem.
The blue plastic needle is no big deal. I will be by JoAnn's today, so I can get another one. But the hook...
Well, JoAnn's only has the basic hooks...no special handled hooks, of any kind. And, I will not buy just a BASIC hook. Nope...I REFUSE! (I am totally anal about it. I need that one special hook. No other hook will do.) And, for the life of me, I simply cannot remember the web address, of the company I bought this hook from. Boy, doesn't that just suck? Sure, there are tons of fat-handled hooks out there...I could easilyfind one, online. But, I want MY hook, with the blue clay handle.
There was no reason for my hook to die. It was a good hook. It did not deserve the execution it got.
So, later tonight, I will be searching the internet, like crazy. I will NOT give up, until I find my late hook's long lost brother.
And, when I get this new hook...well, that damn dog better stay away from it. If it doesn't well...it will OFFICIALLY live in a home that is free of Scooby Snacks. That is all I have to say, on the matter.
Well, I am off. Time to go mourn my hook, and take care of the minor pings of tendonitis, in my left wrist. (I am sure I am just imagining this pain...it is my own little way of dealing with the loss of my hook.)
So...
Happy crocheting!
