The Doctor Finale

Jul 12, 2008 14:37

Oh yeah... those law abiding Yanks I know (as opposed to your ordinary, law defying ones, such as me) will be in for a couple of weeks of spectacular Doctor Who, with BBCAmerica finally getting caught up. Great finale. Loose ends tied, fantastic cast appearances, weird paradoxes completely ignored.

The show delights me because I don't get why it works... The villains are ridiculous, (seriously, Daleks?), the stories are ridiculous, the last minute Doctor-saves-the-universe-again endings are the epitome of bad writing... and yet... it gets me every damned time.  I never expected to empathize with a Catherine Tate character... and there it is... I never expected to look forward to the most abysmal special effects on television (seriously, the sunday afternoon throwaway serials in this country have better effects...) and yet, they just work better than anything out of a Bruckenheimer would...

I just saw the "Ministry of Silly Walks" on the other day, same deal, while being entirely different.  I will likely never get how the Brits get themselves from Point A to Point &, but I will likely always appreciate it.
