I'm watching the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics. In my entire life, I've never watched this before. The Olympics were never something I was all that interested in besides listening to who won what. The closest I came to tuning in was when I watched the figure skating event because I wanted to see Sarah Hughes win the gold. (I went to school with her once upon a time. She'll never remember me, but I'll always remember her.)
Man, though, if I knew what I had been missing, I would have watched the Opening Ceremonies years ago! I've been on the verge of bursting into tears since it began. Seeing the children singing, the beautiful performances, the art, and now the Parade of Nations...it's just so gorgeous. What's killing me is that beautiful calligraphy painting that's been a work in progress since the beginning of the show. First with those dancers being human brushes and creating the outline of an ocean and mountains, then there's the school kids coloring in the mountains and putting a smiley face in the sun (AWWWW!) and now the different nations walking over the different color paints and adding color...
I don't know how much longer I'm going to last. =D
ETA: How adorable was it when Yao Ming carried the flag for China next to little 9-yr-old Lin Hao? My heart was fit to burst watching that.
olympics,
