Well, my time spent at Ad Astra this year was enjoyable, despite having the con-plague before I even arrived. In a strange turn of events I actually got better as the weekend went on. My apologies to all those I may have given my sickness to. It was really good to see my niece (
strayfish) there this year, as well as some of my close friends, Alfred and Matt.
Also last Saturday Alana and I saw Frank Miller's 300. My two-word review would be "Bloody Good!". My one-word review would be "gratuitous". Unfortunately some of my friends went to buy tickets on Friday for the IMAX show but it was sold out. However, when Alana and I were in the theatre on Saturday night, there were plenty of seats available. This was a bit annoying to me.
A lavish piece of art, that cannot be analysed for it's historical accuracy. This is the film that makes a legend come alive. Everything about it is exaggerated, which is the point. However, it may not have gone quite far enough. In many areas it strays close to reality, which makes you wonder wether or not the story is trying to tell an accurate representation, or merely showing you the tale through the muddy lens of folklore.
Last Sunday a shiny new bed arrived at the house, followed shortly by mattresses to match! This is in preparation for Alana moving in this Saturday. My weekend girlfriend will turn full time!
Recent television programs have been similar in a way I find rather disturbing:
All three main TV shows that I watch, BSG, Rome and Heroes have had really violent acts highlighting recent episodes. Often resulting in someone's death. Battlestar left me rather emotional after we learned that Starbuck is gone - but she will be back! Syler is really stepping thing up in Heroes, and I have really enjoyed the last three episodes, it's really a shame they're taking another break... Boo! And Rome has been pretty awesome all the way through, but the most haunting thing I found was listening to Servilla shout "Attia of the Julii, I call for justice"... haunting...
