the public eye

i am really tired of how indian people think it is totally okay to just gawk at you. unabashedly. at first i thought it was just me they were looking at, but i've noticed that they do it to each other too. constantly and intensely. is there ever a private moment in india? i was looking forward to coming back and enjoying the anonymity of america, but then i remembered that the surveillance there is on a whole different plane. yeah, people don't stare at you [obviously] but you get videotaped and 'documented' everywhere you go. dumb mechanical eyes patiently observing your every moment. at least in india the phones aren't tapped and the people will probably forget you after they've satisfied their curiosity.
