ive been thinking lately...
how much control do we have over our fates? how much authority do we have with regard to the direction of our lives? are we just mere pawns in this grand idea of life?

the answer that i have concluded for thre three questions are "not much", "nada" and..."prolly definitely yes".

people talk about free will all the time. about being able to express themselves, fight for their lives etc. etc.etc. but probably like alex in the clockwork orange, we are trapped in our age group, we are trapped in our world and our time... and in fact, we are given the illusion of free will. we think we can alter our paths.. but how true is that? can we make a "path" for ourselves or has that already been predestined. lets not talk about god. i shall approach this topic in a barnard religious scholar way.. god MAY exist.. or he MAY not. those are the two options.. if god exists... is one subverting "god's will" by attempting at free will. if he doesnt... is there still a path made out for everyone. who and what determines your future. an optimist or rather a self-help book would say... YOU! only YOU CAN DO IT! YOU ARE THE FUTURE! YOU MUST STRIVE FOR GREATNESS!... its kinda of weird.. but if we look at lets say... antionio or sebastian in the tempest. THEY strived for greatness. THEY were probably reading selfhelp books in those days! I MUST BE DUKE. etc. and yet, because they subverted the natural order... they still die at life. but in an parallel universe, lets say they never boarded that damn ship.. they would be dukes.(or one of them) but because they took that ship, they were ordered to step down (or at least antonio). i am more convinced in the butterfly effect now.. that one small move can create many repercussions. what if greg hadnt broken his arm? would his life have changed? im convinced that they do matter. and i look upon these "butterfly effects" with such a great sense of pessimism.

who can stop these effects? and are we to stop them? are we to go along the path that has been invisibly paved in front of us?

this feels like a lit essay. lol. okay. i will just shut up now.
