Ok.. Scooby Doo has gotten VERY strange
The latest incarnation of this neverending Hanna Barbara franchise has added a twist I'd never thought I'd see...
And it's kind of kinky twisted..
In the new version "Mystery Incorporated", the gang is back home in Crystal Cove and we see them more as 'real' people. We see their extended families, learn more about their histories and the stories are more character driven.
Where things go weird is that Velma decides she wants Shaggy as a boyfriend.
Things seem to be progressing well and they start down a path of courtship... until Shaggy realises that a relationship with Velma will mean having to let go of his friendship with Scooby. (Well - no - but welcome to cartoon logic).
So..
He dumps HER. Kinda.
Her reaction is surprisingly sane: "Wait.. you're dumping me for THE DOG????"
In the ep I saw today, they make a point of underlining this.. Velma point blank asks Shaggy who he's picking: her or the dog. Scooby, apparently has clued into this and agrees with Velma - that Shaggy has to pick one of them. He manages to escape before answering...
Now, considering that Scooby is sentient and even capable of English speech (after a fashion), this whole situation goes beyond surreal.
