I really wanted to hate this new series. I really, really did. As a person, I'm somewhat opposed to change in general and deeply opposed to it in this case in particular. I fell for David Tennant's Doctor hard. I actually can't remember much of his last episode because I was in floods of tears for the last fifteen minutes. I wanted this episode to be a total disaster from start to finish. But you know what? It wasn't. It was light, and humurous, and just all-round fun in the way the series hasn't been in a while. And Matt Smith himself is actually kind of charming in a goofy way, and very, very hard to dislike. Even when he was spitting food halfway across Amy's kitchen.
I do have some quibbles (the title sequence isn't as strong as the old one, and do we have to have the pretty pining female companion again?) but really I'm incredibly glad that I was wrong. And the new TARDIS interior looks amazing. I can't wait to see more of it.
