Sublimating onto Characters
So from the different TV shows that you like, who do you most relate to?
There are the people you'd like to be like, or to think you are when you know really you're not, or amalgamations of things you wish you were. Out of all the fandoms I follow and characters I love, the one I wish I was most like is The Doctor. For his intellect, memory, adventures. The chance of seeing and understanding things in the Universe that you don't even know exist yet. He's like the best of all the things I'd like to be.
Not having to worry about money, because everything you need is in your really cool and quirky home that you can take anywhere. Having so much experience of life and different cultures that you can get by anywhere. Knowing lots of obscure random facts and trivia about lots of different things, from weather patterns and latin names of flowers, to the ancient history and mathematical equations. Being to speak and understand almost every language in the Universe. Getting to have the thrill of seeing knew places, different times and then getting to show other people them too. Doing the right thing, helping people because you can and making a difference for the better.
Not perfect certainly and there are some things I would do differently, especially in regards to companions and friends, but on the whole, I think he's it. The traveler whose home is the Universe and the TARDIS and the people who love him.
If I couldn't be the Doctor, then possibly my next choice would be Rose Tyler. I think I could get away with being more like her than most other characters from the show and not just 'cos the first half of my name is the same, although that doesn't hurt.
In reality though, I think the one I relate to most is Ianto Jones from Torchwood. Not the most dashing or glamorous out of all of them, and I'm not as reserved and controlled and sardonic as he is, but I can see a lot of other things that could fit.
I am also not as organised about everything, but I like making lists of things to do and then getting to cross them off as they're done. I like having proper places to put things so I know where everything is. I like trying to figure things to get people, though I don't always remember to pay attention to that sort of thing, unless its obvious. I like anticipating what people will want doing and being organised and efficient when working with other people.
While I like the idea of action and danger, I think in reality, while the training could be fun and it's nice to know you can do it if you have to I may not be into a regular diet of said same. Although once you actually have some action and danger I might find I love it.
