Martha wasn't one for death. She'd seen it, hell, how she'd seen it. The Year That Never Was...it haunted her more than she would want to admit. The carnage the Master and the Toclafane had left behind did enough to scar someone for life, but somehow Martha had managed to live a normal one just by ignoring it. Well, as normal as she could in a new reality. But the deaths on the network scared her, and with how gruesome they were it was like she was having flashbacks.

In a move that was probably incredibly dumb, Martha decided to go to where the latest death was. The gate, not too far from where she lived. She wasn't sure what to expect, or if it would make her feel better or more frightened, but she had to see. And in the end, she wanted to help even if she didn't know how. Maybe she would catch something that was missed, she had learned quite a few tricks of that from the Doctor.

As she walked up to the scene, Martha blinked in surprise. There was someone else there, someone she actually recognized. But of course it's hard to forget someone you pulled an arrow out of. Her first thoughts weren't of a doctorly fashion, but curiosity as to why he was here. She managed to plaster a smile on her face as she approached Ollie.

"I hope you feel good enough to be out, I wouldn't want you pushing yourself."

Ollie looked up and over when he heard her approaching, bringing up a matching smile to his bearded face. Not a fake one; the archer always resorted to humor in dark or dire situations. A murder scene counts as either, yeah?

"Not pushing till I fall over. I'm too well to stay inside," He responds, nodding his head slightly, a move that would normally involve him tapping his hat toward her in greeting, "Morbid curiousity drew me out, busted wing and all."

He moves his hands to his hips and surveys the area, "A real mystery."

"As long as you feel fine. But if I notice anything off, it's back to resting for you."

Her voice was stern, but the playful smile was still there. She looked out and surveyed the area as well, thinking on his alibi for being there. It was on par enough with hers, morbid curiosity. There was too much morbid in this town.

"Yeah, and I doubt it'll be the last. There's been a lot of death here, too much. You know, this city has everything we could ever want, no need to do violence for means of want or need, but still people do it. It just...makes me sick, Ollie."

There's nothing like knowing a doctor is watching to make a man straighten his shoulders and make a dedicated effort toward acting healthy. "I'll tell you if I feel a twinge."

His features darken as he considers her next statments, eyes scanning the scene with a hard glint, "There's something sick, some moral cancer, that eats away at humanity. Hate. Violence. Crime. Corruption. Some of it is a twisted system, people in power who don't give a damn, or people on the bottom who've given up and turned on each other. But it's bigger than any one city, even one planet. People got to fight it, got to want to fight it, and that ain't ever easy."

"Good man."

She listened to his words with a heavy heart, it was clear he knew exactly what he was talking about. He had given enough thought to this, enough that he probably dealt with it a lot. Maybe this arrow hadn't been his first run-in with crime.

"You sound like you have experience fighting it. I want to believe in the good, and I do as much as a can...but it's getting harder here."

He had given thought to it, even before Ollie and Hal rode cross country looking for the source, as if they might find some fount of villiany from which the dark side of humanity springs forth. But life ain't that simple, on his planet or any other. Good intentions bring about horrible over population and misery on the Old-timer's home planet, while his own is marked with racial violence and economic disparity.

"O'sure, a charity event here, a rally there..." Dressing up as a modern day robin hood and stalking evil through the streets of Star City....
