So I'm a week into this college thing again. It feels so good to be around something familiar. I have a lot going for me this year it seems. A steady and eager girlfriend that I am able to see regularly (4 day weekends rock). A kickass schedule that presents a serious possibility of a 4.0. I'm declaring my major. Weird. My room kicks soooo much ass. And choir looks to be amazing as always.
Today was pumphandle day. It's an odd tradition here at Knox, where the entire campus, students, faculty, and staff, are invited to line up and shake hands and exchange pleasantries. You see, everyone lines up and then the back of the line (or front i guess it could be) shakes the hand of the person next to them, and works his or her way to the other end of the line. So the line coils around campus like a snake of friendliness and congeniality. Some people are too cool to go to that, and just go for the food afterward. I say those people aren't worth meeting. Also, it's gross how many people head straight from the line of handshaking to the line for food without washing their hands. Hundreds did it, so you can't single them out. But it's people like that that make you want to wash your hands, because if they don't wash after shaking 1200 different hands, they probably don't bother after they go poop. *shudder*
Some of the people in line had really cute ways of making themselves memorable among the crowd. One guy wore a suit with a bowtie. Looked like he was getting married. Others put exclamation points after their name on their nametags. I tended to mock them by screaming their name with excitment. One girl was really monotone and didn't say anything different the whole time. She just said "Hi... Hi... Hi... Hi..." Didn't bother with names or anything. I tried her gig for a while but I got annnoyed, as did those around me. One line of girls, I assume from the same dorm, all had their room extensions written by their names, along with questions such as "do you have a car?" It was cute, in an innocent sort of way. I told them I had one and one girl was like, "really? i want to go to the movies!" Unfortunately for them I left no way for them to get in touch, as my brilliant idea to put my screenname on my nametag didn't come to me until later this evening.
We've had people over at the house every night except tonight since I've been here. I've already had a handful of kids tell me they are set on pledging FIJI and cannot wait to rush. I smile at how naive they are and the fact that they actually believe what they are saying. I know I didn't seriously consider going Greek until last January. These guys that are so gung-ho now are going to be extremely disappointed when they a) change their minds and or b)realize that they're going to have to wait 3 months to get in on all the fun. I tell them the truth though, that FIJI was the best choice for me and it was the best thing I've done here at Knox. Aside from not dating anyone here.
Classes start tomorrow. Due to the convocation schedule though, all classes except first period come earlier than usual, which puts a slight damper on my day. I will have to wait until Friday to test out my new "start at 10:40" schedule. I had something similar second semester of senior year at IMSA. Man I felt like bomb shit getting to sleep in so much. Speaking of, I believe it's time to make another feeble attempt at crashing. I'm considering going to U of I this weekend. More on that later perhaps. Adieu.
