BABEWATCH: FORBIDDEN PARODY (1996) ** ½

Babewatch: Forbidden Parody comes to us from the mind of writer/director Rick Sloane. Yes, the same man who did the Vice Academy series. Surprisingly, Babewatch is actually pretty funny and has more laughs than your average Vice Academy sequel. That’s not high praise exactly, but the flick was definitely a lot better than I was expecting.

The plot has a bunch of hot girls and dumb jocks going to lifeguard school. The two hottest babes fight over the guys and the guys play pranks on each other. Somehow they actually do manage to get a little lifeguarding in.

All of the shenanigans on the beach are kinda funny, but whenever the flick moves away from the ocean (like when the lifeguards attend a play called “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s on Acid”) it’s decidedly less successful. The cast of hot babes certainly keeps your mind off the jokes that don’t click. Raelynn (Attack of the 60 Foot Centerfold) Saalman is plenty sexy and Tane McClure (from Lapdancing) gets some laughs as “Bodacia” from “Silicone Valley”.

I will admit that a lot of the gags are bad. And there’s a rubber octopus attack that’s worse (on purpose… I think) than the one in Bride of the Monster. Still, any movie that’s padded with scenes of hot chicks playing volleyball and a “Smallest Bikini Contest” can’t be all bad.

Best line: “Would I do her? The question is, would I stop?”

AKA: Bikini Academy.
