Kidding isn't really the right word, but I don't think he was being serious. Why would you hug random people and tell them you're HIV positive if you actually were? I don't know, it just really seemed like the type of thing that was a demonstration to raise awareness.
As soon as I hit "post" I realized kidding is totally the wrong word. It does seem a little odd that he would do that if it were true, but you never know. He might be HIV+ and trying to raise awareness. I hope he's truly infected.
Hmm. Well I guess it is possible. It's weird that it's somebody I know, because now I kind of want to ask him, but I don't want him to feel uncomfortable.
Freshman year of college, I had two friends find out they are positive, and a third friend pass away from AIDS related illness. People deal with it differently. One of the guys, when he told us he was positive, sat us all down and broke the news as gently as he could, and ended up being the one to comfort us, especially my other guy friend who was sobbing. It's a strange thing. You don't know how you'll deal with it until it's there.
So I just talked to my roomate Kendra, who talked to Nathan earlier (after I saw him though). He told her to tell me he's not HIV positive. I guess I looked pretty worried after he said it, so he told her to tell me. He was doing it for his Theater class, raising awareness. I'm relieved that he's okay. It's like someone telling you they have cancer. What are you supposed to say?
Are you sure your RA was kidding?
