We just got back from two days in Greece's second biggest city, Thessaloniki. Unfortunately the trip was very tiring and not at all for pleasure. We're trying to sell Alex's mum's family home there. An old, neo-classical styled, two floor house built in 1931. We met with three potential buyers, two of which have made very interesting offers. We'll be driving back up there on Monday to hopefully close the deal with one of them.
The weather has gone completely mad. We had packed long-sleeve tops and heavy jackets knowing that Thessaloniki is much colder than Athens and were stunned and quite uncomfortable to discover 20+ degrees temperatures.
The hotel we stayed in had the heating on all day. We were boiling in our skins! We slept with the window open all night and just a bed sheet covering us.
During our drive up our car's muffler just gave up and we had to stop and buy and install a new one. Luckily we were assisted by two police men controlling traffic before road works. One made a call and told us were we could go to get the repair job done. We managed to get back on the road with no more than a 20 minute delay.
The car we drove up in is a 1995 model Rover which Alex gave to me earlier this year in order to learn how to drive. It has never had any mechanical service done on it and has traveled all over with no trouble at all until now. I'm amazed at how it just keeps going. It was bought new by Alex's dad and then handed down to him and now me. It's the first car I've ever owned and unfortunately I don't have a clue on driving and I really doubt I'll ever learn how to. It just seems pointless in a big city so packed with cars and when I can rely on public transport to get me anywhere. Alex bought a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer about a year ago and got a lovely new paint job on it and is now afraid to take it anywhere with heavy traffic so we're constantly relying on the old Rover.
Now after my hot shower I'll just sit in front of the tv until I fall asleep and hopefully won't wake up 'til tomorrow at noon.
