Russell Crowe, Before The Collect Calls Broke Him

So I finally got around to watching L.A. Confidential after meaning to for several years. Definitely a solid film. Best of the 90s? I'd have to think about that. But unlike Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront, it's definitely a contender.

Kevin Spacey was really good in his brief turn as corrupt-cop gone straight, and Russell Crowe turns in a remarkably honest performance partially due to the fact that his character exists mainly to hit and throw things and people.

It's a good story too, one of those it-was-these-guys-no-it-was-these-guys-no-it-was-actually-these-other-guys-all-along crime stories that work well if done right and are just awful if done wrong. Probably not a movie I'd want to see again and again though.
