~THURSDAY March 22, 11 AM ish~
Ok, I'm typing this up offline, so I have a lot of time to write! In fact I'll probably start it now and finish it later! I can't blame you if you don't read it all, but if you do that's good too.
Bethany asked, and yes, I HAVE seen cute Japanese boys. Mostly on TV though, I haven't seen much of school. But they're on TV all the time. Just in case anyone other that Bethany cares about cute Japanese boys (you probably don't).
I'll inform you all about my host family. Otousan (father) works in Tokyo so he lives there, but he visited for a few days when I arrived. Okaasan (mother) works sometimes as a cook at a very nice little place that also has a hair salon and massage (I visited it). Daichi (my older brother) was here for two days, and left for college. They call him Dai-chan (only Japanese class understands this) and he has a lisp (but he's not gay, has a girlfriend). I share a room with Chikako (sister age 16) who will be in the same grade as me here in Japan. There is also Nanako (sister age 14) who is a grade behind us. They're all very nice.
I'm really excited to start school and join a club. At first I didn't know which to join (since they don't have drama or anything). But I visited school on Wednesday and there are two American teaching assistants. They explained Guitar Club to me. Chikako listed clubs for me, but I didn't know what Guitar Club did. They rock out. So I'm joining. I guess I'll learn to play set (they have drums to. They're the rock band club!)
So I'm spending a lot of time with okaasan since summer vacation hasn't started yet here. Yesterday I met her friends from work. They're very interesting. Tee hee.
Registering for the SAT online was a pain in the ass. I don't recommend it. You know what else was?Alien registration. Also dumb.
Oh, and you know what else? Whatever you heard about "only rich people in Japan have cars and houses." isn't true. Well, it's true in Tokyo. But in a city of almost 1 million people, most families seem have a car (not two, though). My family is pretty middle-class, they have a car and a medium-sized house. Also, cars here are definitely more advanced, just like cell phones. They have a little display that shows the ground when you reverse, and plays CDs, MP3 devices, DVDs, TV, and has a display while you drive. And all the cars are smaller. The streets are REALLY narrow (scary) and let me reiterate, PARKING LOTS ARE FUCKING SCARY.
Anyway, Wednesday I bought two Engrish shirts! X3 I loves them. Pics later, I'm wearing one at the moment.
~LATER the same day, almost 6~
I got my hair cut! It is short and cute. It was this little salon run out of the family's house. My host family goes there and okaasan is friends with them. They thought I look like Hermione from the Harry Potter movies! Huh. I guess I can see why they would, foreigners with large dark eyebrows?
~Saturday, April 8th~
Ok, so, I realized I never posted that. Uhh... heh. I guess I'll continue the Kat's Life update.
More Japan-rumor killing (I have really been told all of these by some person at one point or another):
"There are no malls in Japan". False. They have malls. I visited a large one.
"Japanese boys are shy". Very true.
"The first thing the girls will ask you is if you have a boyfriend." False, it's not the very first thing. Always... I went to a BBQ with families who were all friends (it was a lot of fun) and there were two girls around my age there. They asked me right away. But the girls at school haven't asked yet (but it's only been one day, to be fair).
"Japan is full of pervy old men". False, as far as I know. But there is a creepy kid (hen na hito!) in my homeroom who the girls all avoid.
"They have school on Saturday". Kind of true? My school does it every other month. One month, you go Saturdays, the next Sat. is a holiday. Maybe its true in other schools.
SAM AND GIL: One night, there was some show on TV where this guy visited a cabbage farm. And the background music was the Chocobo Theme! I thought you might love that as much as I do.
Killing time until school started sucked. It was a long, boring period where nothing happened. Ok, skip up until Thursday, April 6th. I started school. It was fun. Guitar Club is cool too. So far I've just done basic stuff. But I feel good about it considering I haven't played drums since 8th grade. I'd forgotten how much I like it. I've made some friends too. I talked with them about Japanese bands! X3
Oh, and you know what else? I am completely in love with Japanese bread. They have all sorts of delicious kinds. It's awesome. I love bread. Also, there is a drink called Quu (pronounced kuu). The apple flavor is OK, but the orange is awesome. And if you ever get the chance, everyone should try a sweet (cake, ice cream, whatever) that is sakura (cherry blossom) flavored. It is DELICIOUS. But I'm guessing its only around at this time of the year when the sakura trees are blooming.
Wed. 19
SHEILA: the other day there was (another!) variety show on TV. Some lady was being taught to play golf for some reason. And they were playing Trigun background music. =3 thought you might like that.
I bought a Japanese cell phone. It is neat.
Not much else to say.
