toothpastefordinner.com Last week I was sitting at the bar with a few of my friends. We were discussing the first news event we remembered as children. I am 27, and the others were 21, 22, and 23. Their collective first memories were of the Gulf War. OK...reasonable...
My first memory was of Oliver North and his trial in 1987...only 3 years before the Gulf War.
None of them had heard of Oliver North or of the Iran Contra Affair. I was horrified. So, I began to ask around...
I asked people my age and younger. Only 2 people (age 26 and 27) knew who he was out of the 20 I asked.
I felt so old and worried. Then I thought about people who are a few years older than me. What do I not know and not remember from news and history?...Oh I get it...I am pretty sure that this is how history ends up repeating itself.
