When we were shopping for houses about a year and a half ago, I was pretty insistent that the home we purchased have a fireplace. We were going from a brand-new custom made for us home to an area where all the homes were about 80 years old or more. So if we couldn't have all the nicest, newest stuff, I at least wanted to have some old-world charm, like a real wood fireplace. My dad and I used to roast marshmallows on ours when I was a kid and it was really fun. Anyway, I won the fight, and the house we picked did have a fireplace. (OK, maybe I just got lucky that we both liked a house that happened to have one.) We even made the previous owners fix the chimney and the glass front before we would agree to purchase the home.
We had one fire, on our anniversary last year. It was sweet and romantic and nostalgic and everything I ever dreamed a fire in my very own fireplace would be. Then, about a month later, baby Benjamin broke the glass doors. Luckily he was OK, but we have not been able to afford the $600 or so that it would cost to get it fixed. So it just sits there, taped up with cardboard. Very sad, especially around the holidays.
So you can imagine my chuckle when I got all these free products in the mail, including a
Ambient Fire Video Fireplace DVD that almost makes it seem like you have a real fire at home. It has eight fires to choose from, (OK seven, because candles don't really count) including a campfire, just flames, holiday fire and a modern fireplace. You can choose to listen to holiday music in the background or the just the sounds of the fire. It also has a loop feature so that you can let your fire burn all night long, with no safety issues to boot!
This Web site sells all sorts of creative gifts, including a
Desktop Floating Globe. (Sadly, they did not send me one of these.) I did get fake snow and a pencil that smells like root beer. Odd, but hey, I know some kids that would probably think it was super-cool. Overall its just a great site to get unique gifts for the holidays. I would definitely recommend the fire dvd. It's only $15!
