Maybe I'm doing something right after all ...

This was in my e-mail inbox today. I almost deleted it too, because it looked like spam, but I'm glad I decided to check. I feel a whole lot better than I have in weeks, if not months. :-)

"My wife & I, who are faithful readers, just returned recently from Australia & Fiji. So we are way behind in catching up with our reading of nearly a month's worth of newspapers. But there are at least two items that have caught our eyes in these readings & deserve recognition to you. I feel I particularly can compliment a reporter because I spent 27 years as a Northwest newspaper reporter & editor as well as serving as a member of the 2005 Reader Advisory Board.

My first very special kudos go to your outstanding job in the writing & production of the Women In Business special section. WOW !!. Not only was I impresssed with the content & its diversity, but I was really pleased with the element in your various profiles labeled "Advice for young women who want to go into business:" That was a great feature to the profiles &, because of it, I am holding on to the section to share with the young girls I work with (2nd - 6th graders) in the Ocosta School District's After School Learning Center. I think they will get some ideas about their futures down the road, but also get the message that so many of the women expressed, that they can be whatever they want to be. . .I also want to congratulate you on your personal profile. Though it was a long time ago, I remember going through the second thoughts about being a young journalist & father with a part-time working wife and sometimes missing "the best years" of our young daughter's life. We believe it all worked out, but as you & your husband are learning, it's a challenging situation. I'm glad you & your husband are making it work for all 3 of you, at least for now.

My second "congrats" go to you for the well written & informative Profile on the Lindgrens, the home "flippers". Great story & fun reading.

Continued wishes for success. Maybe we'll have an opportunity to meet someday. Please pass along a "hi !" to Mr. Publisher, another long-time friend in communications."

work, happy, complement
