Today's draw from the Wheel of Change Tarot is the Four of Wands:
Against the backdrop of a night sky, four obelisks rise. An altar fire burns, as the Egyptian ba-bird flies overhead. The ba-bird was depicted as a human-headed falcon that represented a person's individual and creative expression or spirit that left the body after death. Four is the number of the square, and symbolizes stability and solidity - a firm foundation. This card is an image of the first stage of completion; notice the sun is beginning to rise over the tops of the mountains, indicating more to come. But for now, it is good to celebrate and assess the groundwork that has been laid.
From the Oracle of the Dreamtime this morning comes the "Turtle:"
Turtle was once a man, a storyteller, in the stories of the Dreaming. He traveled from place to place sharing his tales; he felt restless if stayed for too long in one place. He once was helped to an island to share his stories (he was not a strong swimmer). The people there kept encouraging him to stay longer, even when he desired to leave. They finally convinced him to stay for a corroboree (ceremonial meeting), but the man felt they were trying to trick him. He agreed to come to the corroboree if they would go to the mainland and float back a log of a certain type, because his clapping sticks were broken. The strongest swimmers did this task for him, but that night, the storyteller used the log to float back towards the mainland. The tribe awoke and began shooting arrows at him; when he ducked under the log, it became a shell, and he has been a sea turtle ever since. This card and story brings up the issue of consent. Sometimes people feel a sense of entitlement to something or someone, and they expect that person or thing to behave as they expect. It is important to question ourselves and our expectations to see if we are crossing boundaries that we have no right to pass through.
