So, my twenty fourth has come and gone - the day itself wasn't especially remarkable, but it was stretched out over a period of three days and so it made up for itself - and I have books on the way. Three, in particular: Black Heart by Holly Black; Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente and Runelight by Joanne Harris. In the case of the first and the last I've read the preceding books; in the case of the latter I'm passingly familiar with the story - Slavic myths are great for clever female heroines and morally ambiguous characters - and am intrigued by both the author and the idea. I do worry a little that Catherynne may turn out to be a bit like Neil Gaiman in his earlier work: rich, interesting concepts but not so great on the execution.
Anyway, we'll see.
Today is National Woman's Day. I haven't really gotten out much (read: have been avoiding it like the plague) but apparently there's a lot of interesting things going on. On the downside somewhat, my grandmother is over - she's a bit like a toddler on crack. She wants attention and she wants it now! Mom is stressed, I'm stressed and dad is stirring.
Otherwise, I have shiny new Skull Candy headphones, I have the first three episodes of Witchblade season one streaming and I have a Vampire the Masquerade game on download - two, actually, the first just finished while I was writing this so I'll be testing it in a moment - so all is not lost. Witchblade is one of those series that always intrigued me but I never managed to see it's conclusion so I'm excited to finally get my chance to catch up.
...there is something else I wanted to say but it escapes me for the moment.
