Some notes on Fiona Belli

Game manual

At eighteen, Fiona Belli left home to attend university. While visiting her parents during a break, she was involved in a serious traffic accident. When she came to, she found herself locked up in a mysterious castle, with no recollection of how she arrived there.

The servants eventually explain that she had inherited the castle, but Fiona had not been aware of any relatives who lived in such a place. Frightened and confused, she searches for an escape, but is thwarted at every turn by the inhabitants of the castle.

Fiona has never had much talent for sports or other athletic endeavors. She is very quiet and seems shy, but her spirit is strong - she is not introverted or weak-willed. There is something inside her that draws people in and wins them over. Despite her reticence she is mentally agile and quick-witted. She resists overreacting or letting her emotions get the best of her.

While exploring the castle she meets a dog named Hewie, and they quickly develop a tight bond.

Wikia

Fiona is quiet and seems shy, but this masks her inner strength. Looking quite mature for her age, Fiona is not athletic, but this is balanced with her quick thinking and sharp wits. Her emotions are rarely expressed but when she smiles her charm easily wins others over. However, she is shown to be frightened very easily, possibly due to a sheltered lifestyle. Fiona studies art and music; at one point in the game, she comments that she can play the piano.

Fiona cares deeply about animals, showing disgust over Hewie's entrapment, the husk of a bird in a birdcage, and a tiger carpet, commenting on how "unforgivable" it was to tie Hewie up, and how awful it must be for the tiger carpet to be walked on all day.

My own thoughts

► For someone who is said to resist overreacting, she sure does panic a lot. Easiest explanation could be PSTD + the new and terrible situation in the castle. The wikia saying she might have had a sheltered lifestyle (addendum: very likely due to Ugo's background) supports my thought that maybe she doesn't adapt to new things emotionally so well. Game manuals are hardly accurate representations of characters, though.

► She seems quite fit for someone that's not talented with sports or athleticism. The Bellis themselves might have been fairly well-off before the accident and Fiona's subsequent orphanage. (Addendum: According to this wiki, they were schoolteachers. Still, Fiona had to learn to play the piano somehow and I said fairly well-off.)

► There is an emphasis on her being quiet yet strong-willed and not an introvert. As all heroines are. Although Fiona's the only one I've seen that's "quiet." In high school Fiona might have been the student that was friendly and fairly popular, but didn't take part in many extra curricular activities that didn't have anything to do with academics (addendum: and arts. Somehow I was right about her being an arts person). Probably got good grades.

► Probably also only spoke up whenever she wanted to make her opinion known or put forth an idea or some bit of logic.

► Also she might have been fairly proficient with science in school if she could work those alchemy-based machines despite being an arts major. :|a

► But she's confused by the appearance of a typewriter? Apparently doesn't have an interest in historical things.

► Italian. But for some reason has an English accent. :|a This isn't relevant.

► Also being Italian coupled with a bit of the imagery in the chapel, Fiona is probably Roman Catholic. Devotion to the religion might be strong with how often she clasps her hands in prayer.

Quotes from her journal:

>Well, I guess you never know until you try. But I figured as much. There is no way someone my size is going to move something this big and heavy.

>So beautiful...it's almost unnatural somehow...

>Oh well, blame society, I guess
