In Lilah's defense, so far, she had made few enemies for herself here. She hadn't had a lot to worry about. Even before Angel died, it wasn't like he could enter her apartment without permission. And for whatever reason, the slayer only bothered Lindsey. It worked her for her.
So of course, she thought nothing of it at first when she made her way into the apartment, kicking off her shoes as she did so. It wasn't until she had begun to remove her coat that she realized something was off. She looked in front of her, noticing someone sitting on her couch.
She took a few cautious steps closer and turned the lights on to see that it was Lindsey.
Well shit. That didn't mean anything good. But she tried her best to keep her composure. The last thing she wanted was for him to know he had managed to unnerve her.
"I didn't think you'd be so eager to come back here, all things considered."
"What did you think was gonna happen, Lilah? That I was just gonna lie down and take it?"
He drank some more whiskey, then leaned down set it carefully on the floor next to the sofa. Being able to use his right hand for such mundane things, it was...words couldn't describe how buzzed it made him feel.
"You took something from me. Information you had no business taking. But more than that, you broke the truce. I think it's fair that I get some reparations, don't you?"
"Not exactly," She admitted. "But I thought you might at least come up with something with a little more finesse to instead of just breaking into my apartment like some kind of neanderthal."
Of course, the fact that he had gone to such lengths was probably not a good sign. And now he had both hands. And she already knew from the other night how far he had gotten developing his force powers. Lilah wasn't dumb. She definitely had her guard up to how this situation could end up for her.
"I hate to break it to you, Lindsey, but life isn't fair."
As he took a step forward, she took one back. Already her eyes were scanning around the room, mentally taking note of anything she could use as a weapon if needed. Because while she preferred not to physically fight when she could help it, she wasn't going to lie there and just let herself be attacked either. She was better than that.
"So what?" She asked, raising a brow at him now. "This is just me getting what's coming to me?"
If anything else, baiting him might by her some time. Time she could use figuring out what exactly he had planned, that way she could go on the defensive as soon as possible.
"Seems as good a reason as any. Or 'hey, I got me a new hand and ain't that nifty'." He thrust his right arm at her suddenly, an echo of the other night. As if he were going to test using the Force on her again now that he had two hands at his disposal.
But it was just a feint. Instead he bent his elbow and flexed and curled his fingers harmlessly, enjoying the mobility. The sensation of movement. Sensation.
"The thing is...sometimes finesse is the way to go. I gotta agree with you there. But the difference between you and me, Lilah, is that I'm totally fine with neandarthal. Taking a more hands on approach to a problem."
He started to strip off his jacket, then roll up his sleeves. All the while, he was keeping his eye on her, his casual demeanor was a complete lie. He wasn't gonna let her leave.
She actually jumped a little in spite of herself when his arm jutted out towards her. A hand came up to her neck, rubbing it a little as she remembered all too well how he had tried to choke her the other night.
And there were no drugs in his system to slow him down this time. Unfortunately.
It had always been a difference between her and Lindsey, he was rash, unpredictable at times, while she was always plotting and trying to stay two steps ahead.
"And what, you expect me to just stand here and let you do whatever the hell you want? Because somehow? I don't see that happening?"
The words aren't coming out as strongly as they were a few minutes ago as her heart beat wildly in her chest.
"I don't know. You tell me. What are you gonna do, Lilah?" He noticed that she was backing towards a sculpture on the end table behind her. Probably hefty enough to do some damage if she got her hands on it. A narrowed gaze and flick of his wrist was all it took to send it toppling to the floor. If she wanted it, she'd have to bend down to get it. That'd make her vulnerable. "Oops, guess you can't use that now."
Well, there went that option. In a moment of almost desperation, Lilah held her own hand out. She had remembered something pulling at her the other night, something that she had to assume was her own connection to the force.
But it was untrained. And because of that, the sculpture wobbled a few times at her attempt, but otherwise stayed where it was.
Which meant she needed to figure out something else. And quick.
Lindsey clocked her attempt and wasn't totally surprised that she was also Force sensitive.
"Nice try. But I got a head start on you, Lilah. Kinda like old times, huh? Me paving the way, you trying to keep up. Though, I gotta hand it to you, drugging me, that took balls. That was ballsy."
He was done with rolling up his sleeves and advanced upon her, his expression dark and unforgiving.
She almost flinched at his words. The last thing she wanted to be reminded of right now was how he always bested her. She worked twice as hard as he did on any given day and he always ended up ahead and it wasn't fair. It wasn't right.
She couldn't say she regretted drugging him, even now. It had felt so good to be the one with more power in the relationship for once. Even if that moment is what had landed her in this situation to begin with.
"What can I say? I've always thought I had more balls than most of the men I know."
She refused to let him know just how much he was unnerving her. Refused. She was better than that.
He could tell he was getting under her skin. Knew exactly what buttons to push, which were the most vulnerable parts of her to stick the blade in.
"Not tonight, Lilah. Not tonight."
Lindsey didn't bother with the Force this time, he just lunged for her without warning, both hands at her throat, shoving her hard back against the nearest wall.
She didn't quip back. Not this time. She couldn't. She couldn't manage anything but gasp for air, choking as she felt his fingers wrap around her throat. It felt different then when he had done it with the force last time.
It felt different to actually feel his fingers gripping her, pressing against vulnerable flesh. It was quite a rush. He leaned in close, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered harshly to her.
"You cross me again, and I'm gonna do it nice and slow, and up close and personal. You understand? Don't think I don't have it in me. There's one thing I can't forgive, Lilah, and that's betrayal. And you know why."
He lets up on the pressure, giving her a chance to breathe, to speak if she wants to.
"So what's it gonna be? You gonna play nice again, or are we gonna have a problem?"
She gasps for air as he releases his hold a little, the sudden rush of oxygen to her brain giving her brief relief from her panic. At his words, she nodded her head a little.
"I'll play nice."
Because Lilah knew when not to push things. She knew when to play along. And not being choked again was pretty much the definition of a time to do that. Before anything else, she was a survivalist.

With deliberate slowness Lindsey stood upright. He wasn't gonna rush this. He wanted her to be rattled. To fear what he was capable of.
"Since we're devolving into truisms, I kinda like 'You reap what you sow'."
He started to step towards her, anticipating the possibility she might try to escape or fight back. He'd probably prefer it if she did.

He eased up even more, but his hands remained on her, just drifting further down, to her collarbone and then lower...
"We have some unfinished business, as I recall."
It was definitely time to collect.
