HOW THE GROUP WILL OPERATE notyourlight October 23 2011, 02:59:01 UTC

And of course, there's one other matter that requires addressing.

You've all perhaps noted by now that we're without a single Jedi Master in our number. Which means that we're going to need to make some difficult decisions in regard to how our Order is structured and how our choices will be made as a group.

I have a feeling at least one of us is going to throw out the term 'Council', so we might as well address that first.

I don't think a council is necessarily a bad thing. Some of us are going to be naturally more adept in other areas, some of us won't be.

A Council would give us better insight. I'd feel more comfortable if there was one. [There's a long pause.] I'd be more comfortable if any of us were Masters.

[Tenel Ka has been quiet for most of this, just listening]

I agree with Zekk. Perhaps a Council is not the best term, but the inherent injustices and dangers involved in being led by a single person are not something I believe we should put ourselves at risk for.

[Leia concurs]

We shouldn't let frustration with the Jedi Council bias us against the concept of a council in general. A group of minds working together is capable of a broader range of comprehension than one person alone. There's a lot this group needs to know and learn, especially in the absence of someone fully trained. Having a group of leaders, rather than one head, allows a balance of strengths and weaknesses.

Although I agree that a council, or whatever we decide to call it, is necessary... it creates a new problem. Who would be appointed and how would we go about appointing them?

I think there's only way we can decide. As a group vote.

Voting is usually how it's done.

Well, yeah, but how do we decide how many people should be on it?

[There's a thoughtful pause.] I don't see why voting wouldn't work in that situation either.

I think we should see how many options we have for nominations, and then perhaps decide in proportion to that pool.

That plan. I vote that plan. [ A beat. ] Or maybe it should be in proportion to how many of us there are overall. I mean, we're still looking at under two dozen people who came out today.

Proportional representation makes sense, and allows for flexibility. There may only be a few dozen of us here today, but I suspect that number will grow in the future. [Sideways smile at her two sons]

I suggest an uneven number of council members, to avoid the possibility of a deadlock in the event of a vote.

[Anakin tries to hide the grin that comes to his face when Leia smiles at him and he shoots it at his brother before turning back to the group.]

I'd say five is a nice uneven number to start with and when our group grows we can add members. Any arguments?
