[Garrus was casually strolling down the darkened streets, trying not to seem out of place. Here he was, a tall plated alien in blue armor with no place in this universe, trying not draw any eyes as he moved off the street and crossed into a darkened alley. Despite the attire, he didn't have the reassurance of shields to protect him if someone tried to shoot him in the back. He was still counting on Thane's aim to make sure he didn't immediately get riddled with bullet holes should this thing turn badly.

Still, the plan was to lay low, not attract any attention; get to the meeting point, get the information, then leave.

Here's hoping no one thought a space raptor clunking down dark alleys in the middle of Coruscant was anything to remember.]

Keep me updated, [He replied needlessly, working his way down the maze of back alleys. He had the map memorized in his head, but the area itself was still new, and he wasn't sure exactly how long it would take to reach the agreed upon address.] Would be nice if there wasn't some idiot with ( ... )

[There seemed no shortage of idiots with all manners of weapons on this planet, in Thane's expert opinion. Some sad facts were universal, regardless of said universe.]

Idiots rarely know to hide well. [He answers, pausing to glance at the figure far below.] I have only heard of Joker's infection, but nothing from Jack. Do you know her condition?

[Usually, that would provoke a laugh, but Garrus was... tense. Joker was sick, really sick, and so were a few other faces that he had come to know during his short stay here. And the words no cure made him want to punch something until it bled out an answer.

And he was worried about Shepard, though he didn't have the time to dwell on that just yet.]

True enough. And no, I haven't. Jack seems as volatile as ever. I think if she did catch this virus, she would blow it and all it's little friends to bit for daring to threaten her. [Saying that almost made him believe it. Spirits, what would they do if Jack caught sick too? If Shepard did? Too many humans seemed to be falling to this left and right. A pause, and he asks quietly,] You haven't felt any of the symptoms, have you? [Because if this sickness started crossing species-lines...]

[Hm, curious. Thane couldn't say he knew Garrus well but he did pay attention to the behavioral patterns of the squad. Something seemed off, but he doesn't comment on it quite yet. The circumstances made for stress, to say the least, and Thane was certainly keeping an eye on Garrus and any of his reactions. He had the distinct feeling both Shepard and Garrus would feign health in order to keep up field work, rather than being stuck in recovery. It was a troubling thought.]

I assumed she would be quite vocal should she get sick. [Jack tended to be vocal about things she didn't like. Sickness was probably on that list. His question makes Thane pause, carefully trying to sense anything amiss with his body for the umpteenth time, before he answers.] No. I have yet to be in direct contact with one of the infected, but I believe this plague may not carry to the drell. [He pauses again as he moves forward to scout the next alley.] If so I believe the same could be said for the turians. Have you felt any effects? [and another pause, ( ... )

[And Thane thinks he doesn't know Garrus well :|||]

With Jack? More than likely. [That drawl was something Garrus would keep with him till his death bed, because even in the worst of times, he could still find room for sarcasm.]

[A pause. Tense? Him? It takes him a half a second longer than normal to respond, considering what route he should take to negate Thane's concern. He uses the pause to glance both ways down a connecting street, his armor glinting in the dim light despite his attempt to keep to the shadows. Eventually, he decides to evade the statement with a bit of quick manuevering.] It might be a human-centric virus, which would make sense, but we shouldn't rule anything out just yet. So far, while my dextro DNA makes it near impossible to find anything decent to eat on this planet, it seems to have at least saved me from this little flu. [A pause, and then that drawl is back.] Thank the spirits for these little gifts. Now if only I could find a turian-cuisine restaurant somewhere in this universe...

[It's the space batman bit that gave him away :|b]

[Thane's lips quirk slightly at the drawl, the only other sound a soft thump as he climbed to a new perch.] The next alley is clear. We are close.

[Hm, well that wasn't a real answer Garrus B( Thane considers a moment how to voice his concerns subtly, then just decides to be upfront.] I am concerned you or Shepard would deny yourselves rest and recuperation in order to continue active work on these matters. [Blunt.] You both have a documented tendency towards self sacrifice.

[And Shepard was his friend, he wanted to look out for her. As for Garrus- well, he liked Garrus. Shepard liked Garrus. More reason for concern.] It is troubling.

[Darn, he thought he was being subtle D:

Garrus nods at the information, though Thane can't see him, ducking into the next alley easily. Strange, how much he'd come to trust Thane as a crew member and comrade. Originally, he'd had his misgivings about the sort of people Shepard was picking up, but as always-- he should he never doubted her judgement.

He exhales softly, a sarcastic defense coming up immediately.] Believe me, if I start coughing up lungs or vomiting blood, I will put my gun down, self sacrifice be damned. [...Long enough to get his breath back, and then he'd pick it back up again. He doesn't mention that part though.] And Shepard has fought hordes of husks and a baby reaper and even death and not been defeated yet. I doubt that a little cold is going to stop her.

[You're a raptor Garrus, subtle :| no.

And Thane pushed ahead, climbing again until he could see the meeting spot faintly in the distance. They were close.]

Indeed. But before this drastic point your gun will be in your hand, I believe. [Thane couldn't really blame him there, it's not like he wouldn't keep fighting through such a disease, though for different reasons. He didn't exactly have a great deal of time left as it was, not that he'd bring that argument up to Shepard. He had the distinct feeling she would not find it a strong one.] A little cold, no. I fear this plague is far more complicated than we yet know.

[He pauses] That would not stop her, and I feel it would not stop you as well. [He states simply. He can accept that, even with slight disapproval.] I will go on ahead. I cannot get a good view of the interior but there is a figure waiting. I'll be in position.

[Garrus hesitates for a moment, just a little bit shocked. Thane was often so quiet, it was easy to forget--even miss entirely-- how perceptive the other man was. Quite suddenly realizing his efforts at a run-around were completely in vain, Garrus barks out a laugh, a sound that actually manages to carry a touch of humor.] Yeah. You're exactly right. Can you really say you'd be any different, though? If any of us were slightly less suicidal, I doubt we would've followed her through that relay in the first place.

And it still wasn't as bad as -- [Garrus cuts himself off, abruptly. The Omega 4 relay and everything beyond had been terrifying, but they had all survived. Everyone had come back whole, even Shepard, and for that Garrus was glad. He wasn't sure she could take another Virmire.]

[But back to business. Garrus grows serious, fingering his rifle to make sure it wasn't going to do something stupid like jam on him before he stepped out of the alley and crossed the open, deserted courtyard.] I read you. Radio silence ( ... )

No, I could not say differently. [Thane admits without hesitation- it took a truly special sort to be on Shepard's crew- before continuing.] Though your life, Shepard's life, it holds more time and value than one would guess at first glance from your actions and scars.

[He pauses like he has more to say but stops, whatever bizarre frog preachy backup he might have been brewing falling away now that the mission was taking center stage.] Affirmative. [He answers, slinking closer and dropping down some to get a better view of the area. There was something amiss, any could figure as much from even the beginnings of this shady business, but he was uncertain what or where it would strike.]

[A truly special sort, yes.

But they were all soldiers first. While Garrus wouldn't mind picking up this conversation later-- no, scratch that, he hoped Thane would forget about it although he doubted the drell memory would ever grant him that wish-- they had business to attend to.

Business that felt wrong. Who the hell met armed strangers with information on terrorist attacks alone? In the dark? In an abandoned warehouse?

Although Garrus figured he was past due for a routine backstabbing. And if they got to take down a couple of thugs in the meanwhile, well, that would just make his whole day.

Still, there was no evidence of anything or anyone else nearby. He steps away from the wall slowly, making his way to the solitary figure, who jumps at his appearance before waving him over. He hoped Thane's eyes were good enough to catch anything that might explode in his face before it did.]

[Thane might just bring it up again, or you know. Watch and wait. The creepier option.

Thane watched the figure a moment, assessing the situation. He was harmless, everything in the man's body language told the story. He was unarmed, that much was fairly clear, hunched as if he was expecting something. The question was if it was fear of Garrus or anticipation.

Thane's head shot up when he heard a distinct sort of click in the rafters nearby.] Above- [He warns into the radio before quickly moving to the figure aiming the gun at Garrus's head. He snaps the man's neck with a firm grasp and shift of his head, picking up the gun as others began to move in to the action. He kicked one of the men off the rafters, turning to check Garrus's position.]

[ooc; I honestly can't remember what the exact game plan was here so if anything needs changing please plurk me :|b ]

[[OOC: holy crap your thane is so sexy I MEAN UH CHANGE EVERYTHING!!!! ... :/]

[Garrus is expecting the creepier option tbh. But he's going to focus on, you know, not getting shot right now because the second he walked into the light there was an itch between his shoulder blades. Something familiar and unwanted and warning him that things were about to--]

Fuck. [He hears Thane's warning, just before everything starts going to hell. Men with guns appear all around him to block off the exits, and the supposed contact shrieks and dives down to hide behind his flimsy table, while Garrus works out a much better plan of action. Moving and unclipping his gun at the same time, he begins a quick retreat as gunshots pepper his footsteps. Fuck!] I need cover!

[And suddenly there is a body falling from the rafters. Conveniently, it shocks the men it falls near into halting their fire, and Garrus takes advantage of the distraction to shoot and run, breaking through the circle of enemies to find cover behind large cargo boxes.]

[ooc; LMAO NEVER SEXY ENOUGH B( ]

[Thane immediately begins sniping those with the clearest shots of Garrus, slinking through the rafters as quickly as he could to take down as many men as he could. Unfortunately there was still another man up there with him, forcing him to waste a few moments dodging a shot then dispatching the attacker before he can focus on covering Garrus.]

Your left- [He warns, trying to cover for Garrus's blindspot behind the cargo. He shoots another before swooping to pick up the gun of the man he just killed, discarding the empty, first gun and continuing fire with the second.]

[OOC: SAYS YOU]

[Garrus hunches down behind the crates, knowing it's only a temporary cover. If the others have even half a brain of strategy between them, they'll try to flank him-- something all too easily done in this haphazard maze of crates. Something like a sledgehammer hits his armor on the left, and Garrus curses and lets his back hit the containers, firing a shot at the attacker that had sprung up on his left. The man goes down with a new hole blooming where his eye once was; at this range, Garrus could probably keep both eyes closed and not lose any accuracy.] Thanks. [He glances up, but he was no help to Thane down here; the rafters were nothing more than a mess of darkness ( ... )

[After a few more shots Thane slinks forward, finding a small cluster of the men trying to get a shot in too close to Garrus's position. At Garrus's comment his lips quirk slightly.] I have heard one of the crew wisely blame "god damned shitty luck" for many predicaments. I believe it was the Gardner.

[With that he jumps down from the rafters, proceeding to put his assassin training to good use by snapping a man's neck and using his body to throw another off balance. He uses the momentary distraction to shot the fallen man in the head, quickly shooting another of the now dwindling cluster in a fluid movement.

Unfortunately dodging the last of the group's frenzied attack puts him the line of supporting fire, a blast grazing his arm and leaving a nasty burn in it's wake. Coruscant needed to get shielding technology going B(

He shoots the last of the group and ducks behind some cargo, focusing on the radio again.]I'm on the east side, below the machinery. [Garrus was the squad leader type here, Thane had seen enough of his leading ( ... )
