Silly Portlanders

Funny thing, I ended up following a bunch of bicycle protesters this morning on my way home from the doctor's office. They wanted to get on the road from the sidewalk, so I stopped my car and let them go ahead of me. We waved and smiled at each other.

They were protesting the use of fossil fuels, towing signs, and wearing interesting outfits. One guy was wearing a polar bear suit, another was wearing a cape of pink chiffon, another guy was towing a gas station price sign behind him listing the cost per gallon of treatment for veterans, damage to the environment, and government subsidies to Big Oil.

I started to get anxious because two motorcycle officers were following me, and I couldn't figure out why. I ended up going 10mph for about 5-10 blocks, the police drove away after a block or two. Maybe they were concerned that I was going to ram the bicyclists? I think once they noticed that I was ignoring the open lane on my left, and continuing to drive very slowly, they drove elsewhere.

Anyway, found a link, it's an actual protest called the Tour de Petro, put on by PDX Swarm. PDX Swarm is a group of bicyclists who gather in bunches, like Critical Mass used to be, but less obnoxious.

They're doing something with the #OccupyPortland group today.
