My son, poor thing, is totally afraid of needles. How afraid? When he had to have blood drawn, he ran and hid under the chairs in the doctor's office, and it took an hour for him to get the bloodwork done.
So he's going off to college in the fall, and I want him to have the vaccine before he leaves. So, when I approached him about vaccines, and mentioned HPV, he asked: "Can I just not have sex? I promise I'll never have sex if I don't have to have the vaccine."
He wasn't joking.
I managed to not laugh. I just said, "you may feel differently later, and it would be too late."
I just wish there were an intranasal formulation.
