Sometimes I love my job...

Yesterday, I worked for a total of an hour and a half.

February is the big push for the Fine Arts Fund here in town, of which Madcap is a member. Organizations and businesses who give to the Fund have fundraising campaign kickoff events where they bring artists supported by the fund in - to give a taste of where the money goes. Yesterday, we were one of the arts organizations invited by Macy's downtown to perform for/speak for their employees and shoppers. Karie, our "Coordinator of Workshops and Special Projects" was going to do a quick Gingerbread Man story, and Jenn and I were to do a walk-around, interacting with the folks at the Macy's.

We were slotted at 12:30, and arrived at noon to set up, etc. When we arrived, there was already another actor performing. He was doing a Black History Month solo performance - taking famous African American poetry and weaving it into a single life's story. It was interesting, if a bit slow. I've seen this particular actor in a couple of shows at Ensemble, and he has a bit of the general langorous style that pervades their shows.

Just before he ended, an announcement came over the loudspeaker:

Attention Macy's employees and shoppers: We'd like to invite you to continue our celebration of the Fine Arts Fund and Black History Month with Madcap Puppets! Please join them on the second floor.

Now, this was all well and good, except for one slight thing. We'd just been introduced as part of their Black History Month celebrations. I'd just grabbed a couple of matching puppets from the studio on the way in, figuring that what they were didn't matter, since it was just a walkaround to show off. After the announcement, I immediately regretted my choice.

I was walking around Macy's, celebrating Black History, with a couple of monkeys.

puppets, funny stories
