A sole, barren tree - amidst the disintegrating fires of the waning sky.
So is my heart. All I have is a sight of beauty, yet I still stand alone with deep, restraining roots.
I went out with a
friend tonight. It wasn't really a date to me, but we made it feel like a date just for fun. We had a thing for each other about a year ago, but we have some substantial factors that disable us from ever being involved. She is
Jehovah Witness, and I am ... well, not
Jehovah Witness. (For avoidance of confrontation, I won't say what denomination I am.) I still love her greatly as a friend, but her beliefs do not allow her to really "
date." As a good friend, I told her that I didn't want to be the reason for her betraying any of her religious beliefs. We still flirt like crazy for fun, but she knows that I won't permit anything to happen between us. Tonight was still amusing though. She met me at my
residential college @ 7, and I took control of her wheels. We ended up at M.Cafe, a quaint asian cafe and mediterranean tearoom. It was good, but I couldn't help but laugh at the situation. Although we're great friends and talk all the time, it still seemed like an awkward
first date. Conversation was lax, and I kept snickering. She asked why, and I told her it was the faces she kept making. "Awww, I don't mean to look bored," she replied as I burst into laughter. By now, we're rolling about how funny we must sound to others in the restaurant. All was good, I
paid, and we came back to the campus to watch ... Sex and the City. Before heading up to my room, we made a trip around the infamous
Horseshoe. It was pretty, but quite cold. The guy signing us in told us to go get warm, so of course we provocatively made a comment about, "Oh, we will!" After sitting around for a while, I walked her back down. After saying thank you to the same guy at the desk, she turned to me and says, "or should I thank YOU?!" I couldn't help but shake my head in disbelief. It was hilarious. It was incredibly funny to see that guy's face when I came back in from walking her to her car.
Priceless. Anyway.
