Characters: Jade Curtiss and Zechs Marquise
Content: Edgeworth's nagging has sent Zechs down to the office for some prodding at his old injuries.
Setting: The medical office.
Time: A bit after the announcement, after things have calmed down.
Warnings: Uh, medtalk? Jade's on good behavior~
Zechs left his quarters, shutting and locking the door securely. He did have a picture of his family in his belongings and did not want anyone figuring out who he was. The pale haired Commander walked down the hall towards the medical bay. The first mate hadn't exactly told him to get the shoulder looked at, but hinted at it. Zechs knew he would need to, to see how bad the damage was and see if it could be fixed. He straightened his shoulders and then knocked on the door.
Jade paused for a moment in his filing woes at the knock on his door. 'Unlikely' did not quite begin to describe the chances of one of his crew mates actually coming to the medical ward on their own free will - not that the kicking-and-screaming part wasn't entertaining~. He put down the remaining papers, walked over to the door, and opened it, face already fixed in a look of quizzical bemusement.
"Are you busy Doctor?" he asked. Zechs didn't look like he was being forced here. He kept his face blank and eyes very, very neutral.
Jade blinked for a very brief moment at the relatively unfamiliar face before him- ah yes, the new Quartermaster. "Not particularly," he said, face bland but not impolite, "I've always time for what concerns the crew may have, Commander."
"I would like you to look at my shoulder. It was injured fairly badly a while back, and has been giving me problems." He explained clasping his hands behind his back.
Jade stepped back inside, opening the door with him. "I see." He took his stethoscope off the hook behind him and placed it around his neck, then gestured towards the small exam table. "Shirt and jacket off, and have a seat up there. What can you tell me about the injury?"
He walked into the office, already unbuttoning his jacket. He slipped it off and then removed the black vest that was under it. Putting that on top of the jacket he removed the shirt. The Commander was pale, a nasty scar ran across his left shoulder. "I was on an assignment a couple of years ago. We came under attack and I took a hit. My aircraft went down and my shoulder was injured in the process." He said giving Jade the short version as he sat on the exam table.
Jade nodded and walked around behind the other man. "I'll need details about the subsequent medical treatment." He began prodding at the scarred shoulder, checking for muscle damage. "Were there any infections? Was there anything lodged in it?"
Zechs moved as Jade prodded a particular sensitive spot on the scar. "They stitched up the wound, wrapped it and put my arm in a sling until it healed. I don't know if there was muscle damage or not, but it tenses up painfully sometimes. I don't know if there was anything lodged in it, I don't really remember much right after the accident."
"I see." Jade placed one hand on Zechs' shoulder, the other on his forearm, and gentle pulled upwards. Hrm. He could certainly feel the muscles pulling against themselves, but they were far too tense, as though there wasn't enough muscle to fill the gap. "What causes the tensing?"
The soldier took deep breaths, obviously trying to relax against the pain. "When I would pilot, it would cause a lot of the pain. As a pilot, I would use more of the muscles in my shoulders." He said trying to stay relaxed. It wouldn't do to punch the Doctor, which was the reaction he normally had when anyone worked on his shoulder.
"So it's just over-extension then..." Jade hmm'd mostly to himself and gently set the limb back down. He walked to the small cabinet above his desk and spoke while rooting through it. "Whatever you did to that shoulder, it caused very heavy muscle damage. While that usually isn't a problem, your shoulder likely didn't heal correctly." He turned back around with a small bottle of some creme in his hand. "I can't tell if it was due to extensive damage or insufficient health care, but your body has repaired the tear with scar tissue in its inability to re-link the muscles. Since the scarring doesn't flex, the muscle is trying to stretch itself over an area far too large for it." Jade stopped just in front of Zechs and held out the bottle. "This will help with the pain, but fixing the shoulder will require surgery, and you'll be in a sling for a few weeks afterward."
He sighed a bit. "Great... Surgery? Why didn't they tell me this when I was first injured?" that comment was more to himself than anything else. Zechs shook his head and then took the bottle of cream from Jade.
Jade smirked a bit. "Mmm, likely because they were too concerned with ensuring you retained use in that arm to worry about healing complications. I can do the surgery on-board, but considering our future ah, plans, I doubt we'll have time."
"I hope the Admiral doesn't ask me to pilot in upcoming events..." Zechs said as he glanced at Jade out of the corner of his eye.
"Who really knows what the Admiral's thinking?" Jade sighed a bit and shrugged, mostly in amusement, but with a certain amount of bitterness. "We'll just hope you don't have to pilot and I don't have to serve as a weaponry brigade." He was...mostly sure the Captain didn't know much of his combat abilities, but he'd really rather not be ordered about like an undersized canon.
Zechs nodded and looked at Jade. "Thank you Dr. Curtiss, I'm glad to have a proper analysis on my shoulder."
"Any time, Commander." Jade handed Zechs his jacket and shirt. "I'll contact you when we're ready for the procedure." He lifted one eyebrow. "Is there anything else you need?"
He carefully pulled his shirt, and vest back on, making sure each was secure. He then picked up his jacket and donned it. Making sure everything was perfect, he slid off the exam table. "Thank you Doctor, that will be all for now."
Jade nodded politely at the Commander as he led him to the door. "And do try not to get injured further in the mission. I dislike battle wounds~"
"I'll try not to Doctor, I'm not fond of them either." He said stepping out of the infirmary. Zechs nodded to Jade and then headed down the hall back towards his quarters.
