There was nothing quite so embarrassing as showing up to a ball with your father as your escort, in Yurika Doujima's opinion. Things had gotten to the point where Nobu led his wayward daughter to eligible young bachelors and introduced them meaningfully, but when she had suggested they come separately Grand Admiral Doujima had given her that look, the one that had made her shake in her shoes at the age of ten. It still managed to impress her ( ... )

Lafiel had managed to get her dress uniform picked up in time, and wore it pressed neatly, her rank insignia sewn on. It was pretty bland, but did flatter her. Once inside, she moved to the wall, a bit of a frown cracking her normally cool face.

She turned her head towards Yurika, as if she hadn't noticed her before. "Hello," she said.

Yurika smiled. "Hello." She looked down at Lafiel's uniform and shook her head. "I knew those things had to be flattering on someone. I'm jealous."

"I think I saw you a few times in the academy, back in the day if I'm not mistaken. But I could be." She shrugged. She shifted her purse to her left hand and offered the right to shake. "I'm Yurika." She didn't offer her last name.

"It's good to see another girl going stag." She added, as an after though. "I was beginning to think I was the only one."

Jiraiya entered the ball with a look of satidfaction--no one had questioned his appearance, and they'd taken his coat and hung it for him. No need for the invite after all ( ... )

"Thank you." Lafiel hesitated only a moment before taking Yurika's hand and shaking it. "You can call me Lafiel." She looked over to Jiraiya and nodded, indicating this applied to him as well.

"I remember coming here when I was in the Academy alone as well."

"Lafiel." Distinct name. Yurika had heard of her. She'd been an exceptionally promising one of her underclassman, then she'd done something heroic, if Yurika remembered correctly. “It's a pleasure to meet you. It's funny, I was just transfered too, and my new ship is slim pickings insofar as men goes." She looked up at Jiriya and winked.

"Any ideas as to why a girl like me might get transfered?" She gave him a warm smile, followed by a quick hug. “It's great to see you among the living again, Commander. I am sure you think you are man enough for the both of us. And a few others in the room if they are feeling lonely.” If Jiraya hadn't changed, which she was pretty sure he wouldn't have, he would have started hitting on them in a few seconds with or without that preemptive joke.

In a way she was sorry for Lafiel. She didn't know the girl, hopefully she would take merciless flirting in stride.

Jiraiya grinned and hugged Yurika back. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Lafiel," he said, giving the young woman a quick and aallant bow. "Ahh, if only the women on my ship had pulled off the military uniform half as well as you, I might never have left. Alas, Yurika looks better off duty then on." He gave her a wink.

"As fot you getting transfered, I am sure I have no idea why that would ever happen. I know I liked having you around," he said, smiling. "Pleasent company to have around when one needed a beautiful woman to have a drink with."

Lafiel bowed back. "Thank you. I don't think I heard your name, though." She had to stop herself before she said the reflexive 'sir' after hearing Jiraiya was a commander.
